I meen its been ok but i just noticed the stock market was down to 9,800 points....

I need to invent some combustable water/corn oil. Then use corn oil for engine oil. And make it not smell like anything when it burns!

Works for me it can work for you. Nothing better then smelling corn in the air. :pface

Well, there's quite a few indicators that determine economic growth.

Unemployment now is the same as it was in the late 90s (quite low hovering around 5.6%). I know its not a perfectly accurate statistic, but it does help measure joblessness to a degree.

What drove the market down recently was terror alerts combined with rising oil prices. Its $44 here, $41 in London. Fortunately, however, consumer gas prices are dropping.

Consumer and investor confidence has been rising every month since 9/11.

Overall I'd call things "pretty good". Things are moving along and we dont need the fake dot-com bubble to do it.

Probably not much fun being a day-trader right now. I'd expect oil to top $50 fairly soon.

The markets have been in the crapper since the late late 90's when the Enron and Worldcom scandels unfolded. I am sure it will rebound. I just hate how they announce that trading is off because of this report or that report. "Johnny stubbed his toe today playing, investors reacted harshly to Johnny toe stubbing incident. All markets were down as a result."

We're at war, and war is generally good for certain segments of the economy. For example, I live in Long Beach. There was just a big story in the paper about how Boeing is hiring 3,000 new employees because they just got a big contract from the Pentagon.

I wish that the government could come up with plans for economic stimulus that do not involve invading other countries.

I just spent $525 for the wrong part... and the government will get ~$200 of my money from a ticket soon... $21 for gas yesterday... ~$1000 saved up by the end of this month to pay for Prom and shiat over the next school year... so... Umm... so I'm spending, you guys should too. I guess.... anyways, I think the economy is recovering, it just had a bump recently.

It's in the ICU at the moment. We're not really sure what's gonna happen at this point. But we're crossing our fingers.

Nothing at all, but that other statement was pretty ignorant. It was a bad joke at best. Which country or city should we nuke, and how will that improve our economy?

Back to the original question, I believe the economy is stable but not booming, and won't be booming for quite a while. Don't confuse the stock market with the economy in general. The economy (GDP) grew 373% between 1965 to the end of 1981, and the Dow was in the same place at start and finish. Compare that to an identical length of time, between 1981 and 1998. In that period GDP grew 177% (less than half the first period), but the Dow increased over 1000%.
