My buddy has an S2000. They have individual coil packs as well. He took it to the track one day and one of his coil packs basically exploded causing the spark plug to pull through and go into the head. Hence ruining his head. It was alater stated this happened because his coil pack cover didn't allow for the coil packs to vent the heat.

I have a coil pack cover on my SR20 and was wondering what are the odds of this happening to my SR20? Should I do away with my cover or drill venting holes?

Heat is an issue with the cover on, as far as a plug shooting into the head, i've never herd of this.

Me niether, which is why I posted it. I didn't reallt shoot into the head. It's more like the coil pack melted and the compression pushed it into the head.

honda gaytec engines rev really high and i guess it could be possible -- 10 grand worth of rpm is a lot for a little engine

I don't believe the top on or off could change anything as the engine bay gets 'hot' therefore giving heat to the coils..

Tough luck for your buddy.

And this is the first time I've heard of such thing happen.

honda.
