I was just browsing around for wheels and was thinking about the importance of offset. I'm aware of what it is, but I was wondering would .02 mm really make that much of a difference? What would happen to the car if improper offset was used?

Thanks

considering you cant even see .02mm that small of an incriment would be negligable.

yes offset is important for more than a few reasons, theres a hugethread on keeping the cneterline of the wheel in the correct position, Im hesitant to repeat all of that discussion here...

other important aspects of why offset is impotrant is that if its wrong , the wheel wont fit!

search around, you should find the thread I am referring to about the wheel centerline..its around here somewhere.-chet

2mm is not that big of a change but it all depends on which end of the range you are looking at. On some wheels, that can make or break it when it comes to clearance either behind the wheel (brakes) or out by the fenders. When all else fails, test fit to be sure!

as you can tell from the diagram above, it is critical to clearing certain types of suspension and brakes. lower offsets (for RWD, and some AWD cars) looks damn sexy whether you have wheels with lip or not.
