So, this morning my Speedometer, Odometer, Tripometer, Dash Lights, Intermittent Wipers, Check Engine Light and Cruise Control were all not functioning.

6 hours and 510 dollars later, they work for the first time.

Except for the cruise control.

Well, I guess it was worth it. He told me all the crap he did, and I never could have done it myself, but I just feel like, God. 500 bucks. That's a third of what I paid for the silly thing.

I think my speedometer is off, though. 5th gear at 3k RPMS is 70MPH. Does that sound right?

Anyway, just wanted to share my sweet sorrow over my speedo.

i dunno if this goes for other 240s with stock wheels and tire sizes but my speedo is like 5-6 mph ahead past 50mph.... kinda sucks. anyone else's speedo too fast? maybe they were expecting you to put monster wheels on it....

Ummm... my s14 is about the same... give or take. I could tell you more if I actually paid attention. When I hit the speed gov. at 117 the RPMs are around 5k... so I dunno... maybe it is off. I'll check tomorrow.

uhh i was following my mom back from northern GA.. she had 4 ppl in her car that could drive, they would switch off every few hours, me on the other hand drove my own car (didnt wanna cramp everyone up in the back seat).. so i jst kept driving.. we would stop every few hours but no more then 5mins.. just to get gas and such..

owww....I feel your pain dude. I'm probably gonna take a nice trip to FL, I'll be sure to use those rest stops as much as possible. (Even then its only around 8 hours straight shot...)

I also ran up next to my GF's Cadavelier and it looks like my speedo is between 3 and 5 miles fast, which, come to think about it, isn't such a bad thing.

I'll probably check it again against the 'rents 626, but I imagine that's the way things are.

And you're right, 510 isn't that bad (A nissan number, after all) but just the same, it sets my plans for the car back quite a bit.

I have the best girlfriend ever, though. She's like "I'm glad you got your speedometer working, baby. Here's 50 bucks."

I was always under the impression that the two companies were TOTALLY unrelated until sometime in the very early 80's. Then Nissan bough out Datsun. The two names remained for a few years, then Nissan (being the bigger company and more established name) just removed the Datsun name from the line up. But, s I said... that's just how I remember it... I was only 8 years old or so when it all went down.

As for the name being an "unpopular" one... did he mean in terms of poor quality, or the actual word "datsun" was a no-no?

Actually, Nissan and Datsun were always the same company, it's just that Nissan, fearing an embarassing failure and subsequent international tarnishing of it's image in the American market decided to market it's products here under the Datsun name, thereby distancing themselves from the potential failure. They were an overwhelming success, and thus Nissan eventually decided to stop the shenanigans and just be Nissan here too.
