Hi everyone, I am dreading asking this because I'm afraid time may have rendered my poor car useless. First off, I am from the northeast where rust is, well...pretty common. I have had my s13 for as long as I can remember and I would hate to let it go. It has a sentimental value that I couldn't put a price on. Below I am going to leave some links of the s13 rust I have found over time. I really want to hear peoples honest feedback on whether I should keep the car and do resto or just get rid of it. I have done a ton of work to this car including an sr20 swap. Thanks for any replies

If it was me I'd pull the motor and find another shell, that ones gonna take alot of work to restore it

been there. my first 240sx went to hell within a few years after owning it. rust kills these cars so fast. keep it as a parts car, find a clean shell and swap over. i wouldnt put a dime into that car.

I might just drop the whole 240 thing all together and sell it in that case. I'll probably get an FC rx7. I've seen a lot in NH that haven't rusted and look great underneath and in the wheel wells. Plus ive always wanted a rotary project. Thanks for the honest input guys.

i understand your attachment to the car but sometimes these things are money pits.. get a s14 or try and move on and get that mazda your thinking about.. its sad. i live in new york and have had to get rid of old 240's in the past s13 coupes cause of rust issues...theres comes a point where its to much to put in then what you get out of it..im trying to post pics of a old coupe and show you the similar rust issues and how i fixed it..but im kinda new to this forum and still cant figure out how to just post pictures. without a link that does not work. if anyone can help me it would be nice. i also dont wanna turn this into a teach the kid to post pics thread either. lets talk about the car.

Yeah New England sucks. I do have quite an attachment and I really do want to keep it. I may end up keeping it. Honestly I don't want it to die and I don't really care how much it costs to fix, ill do it because it means that much.

well if you it means that much to you then i would keep it. you could get a better shell but it wont hold the same meaning and will prob feel weird not being in your car you love. i mean try not to drive in the snow. lol. in new england i bet that will be easy lol.. and getr around to fixing the rust.

Yeah I plan on getting around to the rust soon. I have actually never driven in winter. It's because the roads have salt year round.

Most of the parts are readily available from Nissan.

It isn't too bad, is the frame straight though?

Just my 2¢ worth, I am new to this forum but not others and I've been around cars a long time building etc. The most important step IMO is rust prevention. The 3M rubberized undercoat is wonderful and every auto parts store carries it. Best thing you can do is put a good coat on it. If you plan to get a new shell or fix yours, coat it. Its worth it. I do that before I do anything else. My S2000 and Integra GS-R were both redone within a month of me buying them.

No.

All that stuff does is crack over time and let moisture creep in.

Best thing to do is to use an epoxy primer and that's it.

I'm not here to argue, I haven't experienced that here. 3M seems to make a ton of $ off of it. Three local body shops swear by it. And its worked for me but YMMV.
