Is my fuel filter installed correctly?

I forgot which way it was before. Thanks.

That looks correct. The side of the filter with the off-white plastic piece should be on the fuel tank side.

The flat side with the color plastic is on the right.

Trace that side's fuel line; if it goes back to the tank then you're good.

I think its on backwards then, the flat colored side goes to a tube that runs with 4 others towards the front of the car and it looks like the left side that isnt flat runs to the tank.

Sounds like it is on backwards then. A few things to consider:

1) Some fuel filters are uni-directional. This may be the case with yours, contact the manufacturer for more info before you go flipping and buying new ones.

2) Even if yours is backwards, the fuel is still passing through the filter element, albeit going the wrong way. Your fuel is still getting filtered before it hits the injectors, but probably not as efficiently as if it were installed in the correct direction.

3) Do not simply flip your filter in an attempt to rectify the problem as it may already have gunk on the fuel tank side. If flipped, the gunk would then be on the injector side of the filter element and the flow would push any of this gunk into the injectors.

What would I do? Buy a new filter and install it in the correct direction just to be safe.

Good luck!

So I replaced my fuel filter because I started hearing a buzzing about 8 months ago...I did 50,000km on this filter...

Changed the filter, get better MPG, but I still hear a whine...

Is my fuel pump about to go?....

LOL! yes there is an in-line fuel filter

on R50 Pathfinders, its up by the rear axle, behind the spare tire

Not replacing it causes restrictive flow, which causes poor fuel efficiency and fuel starvation which can lead to (in the worst case) a destroyed engine

Make sure you depressurize the fuel lines also

Update:I just checked my Pathy, and also asked the dealership about fuel filters (I was there for other reasons), and guess what? There's no fuel filter on my truck. Apparently, after the 2001 model year, there is no in-line filter. The only fuel filter is in the tank, and is not replaceable. (Unless you want to drop the tank and take it apart that is).Interesting eh?
