I got my car running last week, we let it warm up and run from idle to 2500 for 30 mins. It had a miss and when we pulled the plugs Cyl4 was carboned up and the plug gap was WAY small. So this week i get home, replace the plugs and start it up, its better but not good. And i still have the check engine light. In the process of me putting the car back together i broke the wires out of the harness connection for the ECU's water temp sensor. I farmed the plug i needed from the EGR temp sensor and have it wired back in place, but im not sure which wire goes to which on the plug, but it runs best how i have it now.
When i go to crank the car, as its cranking the tach bounces around all the way across the RPMs. When it finally does run the tach returns to normal and the car runs like crap.
I also have an EGT gauge, that is grounded to the chassis at a known working ground and it gets its power from the 10a fuse labeled "interior Lamp". Third one down on the right. And when the engine runs the needle on my EGT goes to a solid negative number.
I have the check engine light and when i try and go into modeII the light wont flash. When i start the car the light will not turn off, which according to the FSM means that either the crank angle sensor or the ECU CPU is bad. I tested the Crank Angle Sensor with the voltmeter and everything checks out ok. Would the fact that the ECU may have gone bad keep me from going into self diagnostic mode II and check the sensors? Thanks for reading all of this,~Sam
