Since a replacement clutch is so expensive for an s15 motor... I want to try and keep my stock clutch

I took the transmission off to check the clutch, and the disc wear is within spec, but I dont know about the clutch cover, or anything else I may have missed.

Is this the stock clutch? most clutches I have seen are sprung on the disc itself, but this clutch has a seperate friction surface attached to the flywheel that is sprung.

and most important....I have never removed/replaced a clutch before... Do I need any special tool to reassemble it? (clutch alignment tool?)if so, can I use a generic one?

Looka like an aftermarket clutch. Pressure plate has some circular engravings/scratches on it. Everything looks useable though..from the clutch disk picture you still have some life left on it. But you can see it's kinda worn.

The best thing to do is just change the clutch since you'll have the motor out. Don't cheap out, the pressure plate spring looks a bit worn out from where the release bearing makes contact. The disc also looks a bit shaved too, so my advice, think of the long run. You don't want to be doing a clutch after a few hundred miles. Might as well use all new parts. Doing things half-a$$ will have half-a$$ results.

And yes, you'll need a clutch alignment tool. Just find one that'll fit at your local automotive store.

yeah, there is like 1-1.5mm from the clutch surface to the rivets.spec is .3mm minimum.btw, the clutch does say "nissan" on it.I am going to re-use it, i am just worried about getting a proper alignment tool. thanks for the re assurance :)

I do agree with you. but a replacement clutch will be ~$900.even if it lasts 1000 miles I would be satisfied. I consider myself a good driver, so i think i can make it last.I hope I can find an alignment tool that fits.... :help

You'll be fine with that clutch if you don't abuse it too much. I've used my stock sr clutch for over a yr and it still has lots of life left. Even my stock clutch from my first sr lasted me two yrs and still had lots of life left. Should still last you a couple of thousand miles no problem.

We stuck a new OEM replacement clutch on Ken's SR and it gave us the finger like 2 weeks later when we turnned up the boost.

 Who is giving it to you from behind? There is no way in hell you should be paying for that much for a clutch installed. My RPS clutch I got (that holds 468 lbs.) I paid about 550 for it installed. Going with a near stock clutch should be around 300-450 installed I would imagine.
