Car: 2000 Q45 115k - with issues

Post

My 2000 Q45 started making a bad whining sound that is coming from the drivers side, I took it to a close shop that I trust and the mechanic said the car has been lowered too low and the steering rack is binding internally, also the power steering pump is shot. I have original struts with Tein S-tech springs, someone on a different vip site suggested that I cut 1 coil off of each spring because the teins dont drop the car much at all. Well it was a bad idea, the car became such a pain to drive around, high centering sometimes... just lucky I didnt destroy a cat and only trashed a muffler. The front struts are blown so the car sits a bit lower than it should even with a spring cut, does it seem that the mechanic is right? did the car being too low ruin the steering system? Ive seen some Q45 with coil or air bags that are super low, has there been issues with binding the steering rack?

I'm not sure, and haven't really heard anything like that. I have a 94 and run JIIC Magic with no issues. I would look at the quality of your tires, then the bearings. Is the whining consistent or what?

I know this is a retarded question, but have you checked the fluid just to make sure it's topped off? I have a small leak on mine and have to top it off about every 3 months. Just a thought before you get too deep in it.

well worth checking out, seems weird because ive looked at many Q's on the other VIP forum and soo many are pretty much sitting on the ground, I know they have bags and coilovers, etc but it seems like someone would have the same problem if they are driving around with it low.

My thoughts exactly. Seems as though this would be a normal issue across the board, not just with you. Once again, you throw in the factor of how many people are running lower than you, longer than you have, on cars much older than yours, it just doesn't add up.

i feel like the issue that seperated u if anybody has had issues with bags or coilovers is the simple fact that u cutt the springs. if cutting is not done well it could be that u destroyed the leverage the pumps had. maybe made it diffult to maintain.. juss save up for sum airbags ltr. its well worht it.. i just tuned in that kport has the kit for around 2,700 i bet they can go lower 2.

KSport is ok, but if you're going drop that kind of $$$, why wouldn't you go with JIC Magic? Much better quality and only about $200 more. KSport FTL, in this case.

Oh ok, so KSport offers a bag kit for $2,700. Gotcha.

It is possible this happens to the other guys with F50s but I doubt anyone would bother to mention it. As we say, charge it to the game.

Possibly true, but for no one to mention it at all, or step in to say "I've had this issue as well . . ." seems highly unlikely. You needs a new big body, T.

That mechanic might not know what he's talking about I've seen MANY Y33 Y34 F50s all slammed including mine! with out the problems you are saying...I'm on air and drive pretty low 35seris tires tucked so you might want a 2nd opinion and at a place that knows lowered cars. If your in So Ca you can check out Ross @ Midnight Garage (on facebook) , island motorsports, and in san diego Autofashion. These are places that know vip lowered cars! Good luck bro
