is my car misfiring?

yesterday morning while driving to work, my car started to feel "sluggish" and underpowered. the car would idle normally, but upon reving the motor to say 2k rpm...when the motor would return to idle speed, i would hear "ticking" and "clicking" noises. sounded almost like a rattling noise.

when i get home tonight, i'll have a look at the diagnostic code that pops up (if there is any).

until then, does anyone have an idea on what this might be?

the car returned to normal for a few miles...then all of a sudden, the same issue was happening; loss of power, "misfiring" noises, etc.
