i i was changin my plugs today and after i was done i started and reved the engine from the throttle and when i did that i noticed like a stream of gas flowing out of my #2 injector it was leakin on the intake mani now i know the intake mani gets hot is that going to set the gas on fire if i drive it like that for like 2 or 3 days its like a steady stream running down above the red cap on my injector(at least i know my car doesnt really get 200 miles to a 16 gallon tank lol)

the manifold doesnt get hot enough to egnite it but if a spark occurs thats when u worry ive had that problem too i just drove down to the local car parts store and got a new gasket set for like 3.99 changin is a breeze but alot of fuel leaks out of the rail in the proccess dont be afraid its normalyour car will be fine but you should either change the top o ring gasket or at least for now try spinning the injector clockwise and counterclockwise to temporarily help the leak

one question is it a spray like from a water gun or is it just runnung down the injector

explosion is unlikely, but it could go up in flames...then if the fire reaches the tank, explode.

if its just running down i wouldnt worry too much like i said it needs a spark to egnite either way u have plenty of time to just get the new o rings for now try just rotating the injector around it works if the ring isnt split if it did split in two get a new set asap but be confidand and trust ur 240 their killer work horses with the 2.4 truck engine u can drive the car to the parts store advance carries them on hand and just about all major part stores do but i dont belive napa does but hell call them its easy u dont even have to leave the house just dont go changing the orings in the parking lot u still need a 10mm ratchet

but make sure theyr not the big fat ones some times the workers can be a bi t retarted and give u the wrong setthey should be about 1.5 to 2 mm in thickness and for bout 3.99 ull save alot of gas and worries about the "fire"

dont be scared to take some initiative. its very simple. just unbolt what you need to take off to get the injectors off. the o rings come right off. new ones can go right on. just put a little brake fluid on the rings so theyre moist and slide into place without breaking

its simple first do u have a swap or is it stock if its stock first take off the hose going to your cam cover and take it off the intake tube

then u see the fuel rail twards the back of the intake mani theres a saucer like fuel return on two bolts on it , i think their all 10mm take it off the bolts u dont have to remove the hoses

the fuel rail is now accesable its on two bolts holding it to the engine carefully un do them and set them aside a magnet is very useful to keep it allo form falling

then wiggle the fuel rail off (this is where all the fuel from the rail flow everywhere ) this will free up the rail from the injectors to change the top orings but dont do it on the spot take off the wire clips holding each injector(theres a u pin holding each one take a knife and carefully pull the metal clips off and out careful not to drop them set all 4 aside envelopes or baggies are handy)

pull off the clip and remove each injector usually the bottom o ring stays in the mani u make the choice to change them or not if their clan u can leave them

take each injector and use a hook or a ball point bic pen and remove the black o ring from its divet use some brake fluid or plain oil to lube up the metal stem and slip the new ring on (dont get oil into the injector itself if u do its ok but do ur best not to )

go back to the car set each injectrer into the fuel rail push them into the original position wiggle a little to set them well

heres the part that requires a couple more hands then ppl have put the rail and aim all the injectors into their original position push them all in make sure the wire clip is pointing up on the injector

now ur ready to bolt the rail back into place with its 2 boltscarefully push the rail into its final place and use and extantion with the ratchet head to prep each bolt into its original thread now evenly switch between the two bolts tightening them evenly dont over crank them but make them nice and tight

once thats done ensure that the rail is secure and wiggle each injector just a little to reset them in the holes reattach the wire harness and the clip to each one bolt back the fuel return valve to the mani and check that u dont have any extra parts left over

replace the tube to the intake and cam cover and start up the car make sure none of the injectors are leaking or spraying and ur all set 9it may take a couple more cranks to start but thats because the railk is empty

if any of the injecters are still spraying then wiggle them and restart the engine u shuld be all set

have fun post any questions u have

oh u mean to use the gas in it now

no if u disconnect the fuse it wont have enough pressure to inject

dont bother with the pump dont start trouble u dont need just let it flow out itll evaporate by the time ur done anyway and its only like a half pint that u lose
