dude, have any pics?

it sounds to me like your asking if its good/bad to have a box with two 10's as opposed to a one box split up with two 10's...right?

with the box split up, the subs are in two different boxes, so the cubic area is smaller for each sub.

with the one single box- each sub sharing the cubic area..which is bigger for each sub

You will have to look at the recommended box dimensions for the subs your thinking about using. I THINK that the box divided into 2 boxes will provide tighter bass...but dont quote me on that.

There is no board in the middle to divide the chamber, so its sharing the whole box..

Having two sealed seperate chambers is more of a safety precaution. If say, one sub goes out, then the one that is still functioning is now in a box with double the amount of airspace. It's not good for a sub to be running in an enclousure that is outside of the recommended enclosure specs.

If the box had two seperate chambers, and one sub cut out, then the other sub would still be useable since the internal volume hasn't changed.

Ditto on what phuphyter said. The single air space is fine for the two drivers so long as they constantly drive the exact same signal. This means that both drivers need to be the same model, and you need to run the amp in mono mode - not stereo. It's always a good idea to read the manual for your subs when picking an enclosure for them, too. A lot of info pertains to pretty much any sub (such as the info in this thread), but a lot of info is sub-specific (such as enclosure size/type.)

The main problem with having two drivers share a single volume of air is interaction between the two.

Why? The enclosure is probably not enough airspace for the two tens as it is.If you want your bass to sound good, you can not just port an enclosure. You need to follow the manufacturers info or run the Theil/Small parameters on a box program and build it VERY accurately. As a general rule, you seal small enclosures and port large enclosures. There is much more to porting than cutting a hole in an enclosure.

Not necessarily. If both are playing the same freq with the same amount of power, you can get a DB increase due to coupling.

Yeah, that's what should happen.

But you and I know that like everything, no two drivers are exactly alike.

I'm not saying it's a big difference, but there's a difference between the two.

Anyways, just use the box with some subs designed for that volume of air.

If the subs are freeair subs, they can share the same airspace. It won't really make a difference. These would also be subs used in a ported enclosure. However, if the subs were designed for an enclosed box, they need to be seperate. Each sub manufacturer has a specific amount of airspace for there subs based on the size of the sub and what type of frequencies you're looking to hit.

Not so much. We pretty well had it covered already. Welcome to Nico, though!
