not only does the motor have 220,000 miles the timing chain slipped and the valves hit the pistons and bent, but the head didnt crack. im gonna get a new head, is the crank, and rods alright after hitting the valves? i want to rebuild it with low compression pistons, new bearings, gaskets. thanks a lot

It might be cheaper to simply source a completely rebuilt replacement.Checking the condition and finding a replacement head might actually make rebuilding yours more expensive than simply buying a pre-built replacement. Also note that a rebuild is expensive in general and if you go that route, you might as well include a few speed/reliability modifications since the added cost is negligible once the engine is apart.

This would cover all you would ever need to reasonably do for your KA-T, and by my calculations is only marginally more expensive than a factory rebuild at my local machine shop. Admittedly my machine shop isn't cheap, but what they do, they do right. This is the route I am going.

"Basically the same thing" and "actually the same thing" are vastly different. You get what you pay for in this world.

Bending the valves should not have hurt any of the bottom end.

Cheapest of the cheap would be to have your entire lower end checked to see if it is still in spec. If so, you don't have to machine anything and can replace the bearings only, have the cylinders honed for the new rings on your new pistons and then go for it. As always, replace the timing chain with the new Nissan update.Chances are you will have to have the cylinders rebored. At 220K miles they will usually be out of round by enough that this will be required.Always have the head and block decked or cleaned up so you can get a good seal with the new head gasket.Replace your thermostat.
