So, I was browsing ebay looking for stuff I could buy for my car, when I came across the following item...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

Now, I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima with 108,000mi, and I figure that if I can get 30-40 horse-power for under $30, it would be worth it. Can anyone confirm whether or not this will give me the boost if advertises?

If this wouldn't give much of a boost, can anyone give me some advice on what should be the first thing to put on my car [it's stock] that would give it the biggest HP boost?

Thanks

PS: I'm completely new to modding cars. I am only 18, and before I got my car like 6 months ago, I didn't really care about cars, so I'm new to messing with them.

--Edit--

Also, any advice as to whether or not this is worth the money too?

Welcome. How are you liking your Maxima?

It's a safe bet that if you're looking at a product that says it will work on basically any car, you're looking at a B.S. product. Proper ECU retunes can net some power gains, but a universal "plug-and-play" chip isn't going to do anything noticable--let alone 30-40 hp.

The FloBlade--as with all vortex generators--is a joke. They don't work.I find it funny that FloBlade says their product is specially formulated for the Maxima. It's a bladed insert...what is there to formulate?

Minister said it all. If you can gain 30-40 HP for a dollar, technosquare and JWT would not charge $500. for an ECU flash.

Allright, thanks guys. But any advice on what should be the first mods to do to my car to improove HP?

Btw, I love the car. It runs great, and is pretty damn fast as it is too.

Thanks

Best HP for the $ mod is the y-pipe. It eliminates the two precats and adds up to 9HP.

Check the sticky at the top of this forum for NICO sponsors that carry parts for our cars.

I'm not sure on a 4th gen, but the 5th gen has a throttle body restrictor plate. Cuts about 10% of air flow. Remove itand gain around 10HP for free. Not to sound arrogant, but look at my mods, I'm in it only for HP and handling. The faster and more controlled the better.

I agree about hp and handling...

I am pretty much the same way. Y-pipe is probably the best "bang-for-the-buck" mod you can do on a Maxima.

Probably my best mods are the y-pipe, Fidanza aluminum flywheel and my suspension upgrades.

Ok guys, I have been looking at the Y-Pipes avaliable, and I have found three types avaliable. Also, I have noticed that three of the four websites claim that the product is designed for racing purposes only, and will be illegal by federal laws. However, the cheapest, the Custom Enterprise's, shows no disclaimer about the legality of the pipe. Can anyone tell me which would be the best for the money? Also, can anyone tell me how illegal these would be, and if they are loud, is it that big of a deal? Would i probally get pulled over for it being too loud?

Thanks.

From what I understand, Florida doesn not do emissions testing...correct?If that is the case (that you don't need to pass an emissions test) then it won't matter what y-pipe you put on. The disclaimer is there because replacing the y-pipe eliminates emissions equipment (the precats), and not because they're too loud.

If I lived in a non-emissions area, I'd gut or eliminate all my cats (which is another option for you if that is indeed the case) for both increased airflow and better sound (not necessarily louder, just more...pure. I've you've ever heard an old 60s V8 run next to a modern V8, you'll know what I mean).

I'm tempted to gut all my emissions but will I gain much? (more than 5-10HP?
