Is it true my blacktop ecu cannot be tuned?

I recently got my hands on that hard to aquire z32 maf and started looking into tuning the ecu. I have a 97 180sx type x blacktop with a j4 ecu.Thing is it was explained to me the j4 is not even called ecu it is an mcu ????????? Anyone here with experience regarding this? Thank you

Not true, I have seen tuned J4 ECU's. My friend got his from his engine set tuned for 555's, Z32 MAFS, and a couple other mods.

Who did he go to? or how was it tuned? my car still sitting in the garage while i figure this out

I would just throw out a little more money for a power fc. That way your car isnt down everytime you do something new that needs a retune. That is just my opinion though.

I have this exact same question. Enthalpy doesn't tune j4's at the moment (it says eventually they will but that has been posted for a very long time...)
