Recently my friend took his sub out of his car because he didnt like and gave it to me. It's a Pioneer TS-WX100BP (attatched pic) with a Pioneer sub amp to match, I want to get it working on my car but I'm not sure what hardware is required or exactly how to do it. Is it as simple as preouts to the sub amp then to the sub itself? Should I get it professionally installed?

Should it really that hard? I was able to install my own head unit, its also is a Pioneer with dual preouts,

Should be pretty easy, simply run power/trigger/signal from front of car to the back.

Your HU should have a trigger (sometimes called power ant) and the RCA's. As for power, run a nice 8 or 10 gauge power wire (the heavier the better, in case you upgrade later) with a fuse at both ends for safety.

Sound simple enough?

Ahh, good point, but please do not run your ground from the front of the car to the back. Find a solid (close by) exposed metal area to attach your ground.

you are much better off doing it yourself. you get a few things for doing it yourself: experience, it will be done right (unless you take shortcuts), and if anything goes wrong later, you can then troubleshoot it cause you know how everything is installed. very cost effective too. then again though it's nice to have someone else cursing at power wires that wont fit through fire wall holes without a fight, and blown fuses, and what not. It sure does feel good though when you get it done and everything starts up the first time, and you haven't had any problems yet... like mine did before i sold my last car. we'll see if i can get it all right the first time again with this car i have now...
