Is it the radiator or the head gasket

Yesterday my 1995 pathdfinder started overheating. It had not had this problem at all. I researched a little bit, even though the mechanic told me that the radiator was cracked, I'm concerned that the head gasket might be blown as well. I did check the oil and it wasn't milky, and their wasn't any oil in the radiator.

The mechanic said that he can't be sure that the gasket isn't blown until he changes the radiator. What do you think?

Your mechanic is correct. You can't pressure test the system if there is a much larger leak elsewhere.
