I bought a 1990 240sx over a month ago...needs a lot of body work but the car runs great. My pop ups work fine they turn up with the button but go back down, If I hold the button they stay up..if i flip the switch they stay down but once i press the button they pop up and if i have them down and switch the lights on they pop up.My question is it suppose to be that way or is my button maybe not working properly. I ask because i remember seeing someone just press the button and they'll flip up and stay up untill they press the button again to flip down regardless if its all off. Thank you for the info in advance.

That was confusing!

What button are you speaking of?

To my recollection, they pop up with lights on, down when off, and there's no other controls or options... but I could be wrong, OR someone did some sort of modification in the past.

That has to be a mod, they're supposed to pop up with the headlight switch.

Im sorry I suck at explaining let me refrase it.

So everything works fine the switch is completely fine. The button to pop up the lights is where im confused if im correct the lights should stay up once pressed,Regardless if the car is completely shut off. With my car they do go up but instantly go back down. The only way they stay up if i switch the switch on the turn signal. So in my head i would believe that that button isnt working correctly like if it didnt stay clicked in.

Yeah, that's not normal. on the S13, when you depress the switch, the headlights should come up and stay there until you press it again to lower them. So, I'd start by carefully removing the trim and switch and seeing if someone has modified the wiring behind there. THere's a brown wire that people like to modify to manually stop the lights in an intermediate position (sleepy eye) could be a PO of your car tried to do that and messed up? regardless you can see if the wiring is in tact there or of it's been modified. If the wiring looks good, I'd check the switch next. Could be that the switch has gone bad and isn't maintaining contact while not fully depressed or something? best of luck. Check out the FSM on this site for a wiring diagram of your car. That'll help you see what everything is supposed to be like.

^Yup, I've had a bad switch in one of my S13s. It physically didn't stay depressed/clicked and would just immediately pop back.
