being "worth it" is an opinion...its up to you based on your budget whether its worth it or not. do a compression test...read a lot..and then you'll know

yeah it really your own oppionion. I really dont look at the miles. I look at how it was treated ant well tooken care of.But it doesent hurt to try. if something does go wrong you can always find a cheap ka anyways unless you dont mind taking engines out. BUT THATS WHAT MAKES IT FUN.......right

boost it til she blows then drop another in.

think of it this way, if you boost it now you can start building a new motor in anticipation for that glorious day when it gives up. either way you'll need some sort of rebuild or swap.

Compression test works fine...

The way I see it:

If compression is consistant on all four and the car isn't blowing excessive smoke, it is boostable.. **** I thought my engine was pretty much crap when I got it due to a fault compression tester and that it blew a lil smoke. But it doesn't really blow smoke anymore and since I bought a good compression tester, my engine has checked out good ever since.

Run good oil. Change it often. Best advice I can give.

I run 10psi on a stock DOHC with 175k miles. It's doin' great, daily driver. This is on stock head gasket, too. Only update was a timing chain @ around 140k miles.

I say boost it til it pops, OR juice it til it pops. Either way, it'll be fun for a while. But, I'd obtain a replacement BEFOREHAND so you'll have one ready to drop in when this one blows.

if you want to take your time on the other engineand bill it and dont want to test the limits of the old one..........keep it a 7 psi i wouldn t go fuurther than that. That way you still have a car to drive.

If you want to get the idea of turbocharging the ka you just do it and keep it under 7psi. That way you get an idea and its stright for word to turbo charge the other motor. If you are building another motor that is. So just keep it under 7psi if that the only car you got to drive.

ok thats sounds like a good idea. i dont know how long it will be until i start an engine rebuild because realistically im 16 and dont have a large expendable income im just going to focus on boosting this engine and learn about tuning and the sorts

thanks for the advice

You say this is your daily driver and it has low compression and you don't have much money.

The smart thing to do would be to save your money in case you need it just to keep the car on the road. Building a car is expensive and your car will be down for a while. It sounds like you need to be concentrating on reliable transportation.

But if you must, start by finding a strong running motor or rebuilding one. Put that in your car so you're not walking and if you have any money left, shop for a turbo. Also, keep in mind that this is a car enthusiast forum. You're not likely to get too much objective advise here that doesn't involve going faster and more HP.

been running synthetic from the getgo so yes mobil 1 is the win. i think u should definitely do ur research to see what is the most reliable components needed for ur turbo kit. obviously do a compression test to see where u stand but if all is well, make sure all the other maintenance things on the engine are taken care of before u start spending money on the turbo stuff.

I'm gonna high-jack this thread here.

I'm going to be finding a new block when I get my tax return and building the sh*t out of it (NA build for now) and I plan on buying the turbo kit bit by bit until I have all quality parts. The cheap knock-off parts just don't cut it.

My question here is this, do you guys have any suggestions of the parts I should buy for the block? If you can, maybe a full setup of what I should buy.

Help is appreciated!
