I never do see an oil stain on my driveway, but i guess i have a small leak somewhere, I know theres a skidplate under the motor, so that means i wont be able to see an oil leak on the floor right?

I thought I had a massive oil leak, but it turns out the dude at the lube place didn't put my filter on right. . it covered the splash guard, and then it poured onto the floor, down my driveway, and left a trail I could follow ALL the way to work, where there was an even bigger stain in my parking spot.

What I usually do if I want to check something on the underside of the vehicle is take it to the quicklube place when thay are not busy and ask to walk under the vehicle. I've been changing oil at that shop for years so they always do that for me for free. Take a flashlight and check the top of the skid plate for oil and the quicklube mechanic might give you an idea of which gasket it's leaking from.

Another way is go to Canadian Tire, buy a couple of vehicle ramps and go under the truck yourself at home.

If there is no leak then maybe you have another problem.

thats excellent idea, i saw rhino ramps at canadian tire for only $40 definately going to buy some in the summer their awesome for doing that kind of checking! as for problems, im guessing its burning oil, but just before i changed my oil, I could smell gas in it, and it may be because the oil was pretty dirty, and due for a change, but it still could be bad news, hoepfully me semisyth blend cleans it up in there a little

if your not 100% sure that your leaking just slide a big piece of cardboard under your pathfinder next time you park it. you'll be able to tell if its a big problem or a small problem from the spot it leaves and if it is in fact oil.i was leaking power steering fluid i thought it was oil at first but that cardboard didnt smell like oil.

It varies depending on where the leak is too. I had a coolant leak on my truck that spilled on to the top of my engine. It would burn off while I drove. I was always adding coolant, but never found a leak. I had no coolant smell from my exhaust. I was ready to have a leak-down test done when I just happened to notice that the top of my intake manifold was wet one day.

I have also had leaks that drip on to the exhaust and burn off so you never see drops on the floor but the engine gets nasty.
