This thought occured to me the other day..... And if we are paying 3000 for factory reman trannies that last how long (60k? at best)...... Is there any way we can get new units that may last 2 times as long, even if they cost 2x as much.......?

I dont know if they dont make this transmission any more or not, but if they could, it seems like it would make more sense to get a new unit that will last 120-150k easy, and maybe more with really good maintenance!!

The factory remans last a lot longer than 60k.

More like 150k+ with decent maintenance.

My $1980.00 rebuilt transmission has lasted 54,000 miles, so far. It is a little slippery, sometimes, but hooks up fine. I think I can manage another 50,000 miles at least, with good maintenance. By the way, it is due a flush, right now. I have it slotted to last another 100,000 miles. We'll see

Someone on here mentioned that Jerry Tucker in San Diego said that there aren't enough remans to go around, so Nissan is introducing some new transmissions into the pipeline from time to time. I'm not sure that this has been confirmed on the transmissions, but I know I got a brand new "remanufactured" alternator once - so it's possible. Maybe Joe can confirm or deny this rumor.

As a side to Joe, if they're easily identified as new transmissions, how about putting one aside for me!

I didnt know that they lasted almost as long as the OEM transmission...... Dennis has said that they dont last a really long time, like he has seen some that have failed within 12mo!

let me just ask.... How much do the remans cost, and how much would that LEVEL 10 cost.......? Does the level 10 seem to last longer??

1) 1800 parts only, from Joe.2) 3000-5000 depending on level of fortification + features.3) Have a rep for being strong, even when confronted with more power than stock, too few made to have good stats on how long they last.

I think the history is a little more complicated than that. let me give you my history. I'm an original owner of a 92 with 133k right now, I had the first transmission failure at 38k, I have no way of really knowing whether the correct mods were done at that time, second transmission failed at 88k, so 50k on the second one, that time the correct upgrades were done and I'm at 133k now. So coming up on the 50k mark again, both replacements were completely covered under warranty, even the one at 88k, making me a complete Infiniti believer by the way, I now know from hanging out here that it was Infinitis policy because I was the original owner. I think some of the replacement remans did not last long because the cooling was not improved with the fixes Infiniti now knows about, the ones that lasted longer were probably upgraded correctly with the additional cooling and the replacement of the radiator and all the lines. if that was not done and the transmission had a major destruct thereby throwing a lot of crap into the radiator and all the lines then it was only a matter of time before it failed quickly again, so I think that it is not so much a factor of whether it was a reman transmission or a new one but how carefully the transmission and it's components were replaced and was the cooling issue addressed at the time of the replacement transmission.,

In any case, when I do replace the transmission, the first thing I will do is have them put in an external cooler!!! I wont drive it until thats done!!!
