I think it's just personal preference. I used to go to one of those places but I stopped just because they don't ever use Royal Purple. I never had a problem with those places though. They did use Mobil 1 but I prefer the Royal Purple! I think that the dealership overcharges for everything.

I would say it is better than no oil change.

I did mine myself for the first time last weekend. I used Mobil 1 with the Mobil 1 filter.

If you don't care about the quality of the work they do on your car then yes .

Personally after working in that industry for some years I would rather change the oil on my car myself.

Personally I don't trust any of them. I have always changed oil myself every 3000 - 3500 miles. If you have to use one try to find one that will allow you to watch. Bring an Infiniti oil filter with you. I use 5w30 Pennzoil that I buy on sale usually between $.79 and $.99 per quart at Pep Boys

Nope...It takes 20 min. Do it at home and save a buck.

The oil change on the G is really 20 min. Walmart sells the filter $5 and Mobil 1 $21 so just do it yourself and save the receipts!

It depends on the shop. The problem is that there are too many stories about major screwups by careless, poorly trained employees. The people who work there tend to be ones who can't get better jobs elsewhere.

Unless you make a habit of it, going an extra thousand miles on the old oil isn't going to destroy your engine the way an incompetent oil change could. Just check the level to make sure you aren't running low.

This is a little bit off topic but does anyone use Amsoil? My dad is a mechanic and he was telling me about it. VERY EXPENSIVE but I have only heard good things. My roommate has an Evo and he says a lot of ppl that race them use Amsoil. Let me know what all of your opinions are. I think I am switching from Mobil 1 to Amsoil next change.

Sure, if you don't mind it when they forget to put in the oil filter.

Or tighten the drain plug & replace all the bolts from the fiberboard shroud

My neighbor races motorcycles and he says Amsoil out performs most all synthetics including Mobil 1. However, I've been very pleased with Mobil 1 and don't plan to change at this time. If I were taking my cars to the track, I would spend more time investigating. Just bought 3 5qrt jugs at Walmart for $21.95 each last night.

I also don't trust the shops with changing the life blood of my vehicles. cross thread, too tight, not tight enough.....they might be having a bad day.... been changing my own oil for 30 years now.

Hey Joe, if I were to switch to the purple stuff, do I have to do anything like a 'flush' ? Don't even know what a 'flush' is..... Not planning on switching now, but would be good to know.

Just check your plug and filter for leaks, I have always had trouble with certain places (not all) not getting things snugged back up

So true, got my oil change at Midus.........forgot to tighten the plug. Long story short, plug came loose........oil drained......I was pissed......they paided for tow and replacement plug. Never went back. If you can do it yourself, do it.

I use Mobil 1 Extended preformance. I wait 13- 15 thousand miles before i change my oil. I do buy the extra mobil 1 filter.

I let walmart do mine... I always watch. I live in a town home and i don't have a shop setup to do my own. I don't have ramp ither. But i watch the the walmart techs. They do a good job. I even go under the car and check things out while it is in the bay.

If you care about maintaing the engine warranty in effect, you must have legal wriiten PROOF of an oil change done by a third party [any 3rd party] {every 180 days] with VIN, date , quanity, filter, oil viscosity, etc SIGNED so that the party can be questioned in court.

Self changers have no legal proof as the oil purchased could have been used in another car.
