A friend of mine bought a garrett turbo and the flange on the exhaust housing is an odd size, is it alright to drill it out to match up holes with his t3 flanged manifold?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this...figured it was as good a place as any to find out. Thanks in advance.

anyone? I'm not doubting it will crack eventually but i just wanted to know if it's so brittle it might break a corner off

Just be gentle. Most quality turbine housings have a high level of nickel allowing it last last longer in high temp situations. It is not as brittle as cheap white cast iron like the ebay turbos. Just drill straight and slow with not much pressure.

just take your time and you'll be fine, i drilled a whole for my egt, opened up my manifold to fit a t4 and re tapped a hole that holds the turbo to the manifold on my revhard and i have no problems. just take your time and use lots of lube ;-)

You'll be fine. You would probably break the bit before you broke the manifold.

Lube, slow-medium speed drill, and even pressure and you'll be through it in no time. If you use a high speed drill chances are your going to heat up and ruin the bit.

Try to take a circle punch with a nice point on it and tap in the center of the holes you need to be drilled. Then with that keeping your bit in place, drill a pilot hole all the way through. Then go with the right sized bit.
