Is it ok to change rear tires thats 235 50 17 to 255 45 17?

I will keep the front to the factory specs but i was wondering if i can change my back tires. i will go from 235 50 17 to 255 45 17. will this jeapordize my safety or performance?

Yes if your rim width is 8.5 inches. The diameter on the factories are 26.9 inches and the 255/45/17 will be 25.9 inches. Just a bit lower profile but should be just fine.

i would really try to keep the tire diameter ratio between the front and rear tires as close to the OE specs as possible to avoid issues with the VDC.

the problem I see is the extra width, a 255 wide should be on about a 9" wide wheel, a 235 should be on about an 8" wide wheel, you have a bit of wiggle room and some manufacturers will vary but in general you want wider tires you'll need wider wheels to accompdate them
