For some reason I think recently (I can't recall if this was a pre existing issue) the power windows just stop working if I try to close 3 windows (Passenger and the two rear passenger) and the sun roof at the same time. Now after 8 seconds I can resume closing them.

But as I attempt to do this I can see the instrument cluster lights dim if the car is on or off.

So I am suspecting the Alternator because i waited to long to change the battery in my car, Even though the alternator puts out what it should 13.6 volts at idle.

I assume 8 seconds allows the wires and other electrical stuff to cool down?

Do I need and oscilloscope to do a ripple test or can I take it somewhere for someone to perform the test?

And what other things can I do to check the alternator besides voltage output and the ripple test?

By the way I have a spare alternator which I plan to have rebuilt by a guy I know who has been in business since 1993 (Hub Automotive) and I plan on changing the 3 Idler pulleys bearings and all the belts. So this will solve some problems.

Chill, the first step...

Thoroughly clean/brush the pos/neg battery points, thoroughly. Then brush the insides of the cable terminals. Now connect, tightly--using nothing but your hands (no tools!).

I just replaced the starter for the 2nd time. This time i lightly sanded/cleaned the cable terminals that connects to the solenoid. Now there is no, not even slight dimming of the headlights when starting the car. Thats just how important clean connections are!

This dc ampere probe is one of my most useful tools.Allows you to examine the current flow waveform up to 60 amperes with milliampere accuracy.

Just think of the wires that service components from 1-60 amperes.
