is it noisy or just normal..

Hi, I just bought a 2001 QX4. my is previous SUV was lexus RX300.
the RX300 broke down twice, all with transmission problems. It cost 2-3k to rebuild it. why the people say Lexus is reliable?

The QX4 has 113k miles on it now. I found my QX4 is really sounds like a truck ( start engine, acceleration..) not quite as a luxury SUV.
I had a FX35 also, the FX is quite only with the muffler music. the RX300 was quite while idling also..

the question is, the QX4 is a bit noisy? or just mine is a bit old

Comparing the Q or Pathfinder to any of the others is probably not "fair"...the pathfinder probably has a disadvatnage against those "higher" luxery brand vechicles that were designed to never see any off road use...the Pathy was designed to be a bit more robust in the power plant and transmisson...also wheels / tire type and condition can play a lot into it. I would say my truck isn't whisper quiet (I can tell the difference when I'm in 4wd vs 2wd). Loud humming noises/or sounds that just don't seem right I would say to check your drive train u-joints and CV boots...then belts etc just to be sure...bad belts can create some noise.

its hard for me to say now since i have a straight flow magnaflow on the back lol, but when my 2001 QX4 was stock it wasnt quite as you say. It sounded like a normal idol, only on the outside of course. In the interior, it was dead quiet,

my '01 QX4 is dead smooth, pretty quiet, with wind noise (and tire noise because of my AT tires) being the primary noise factors. I also had a '00 Qx4 and found the 01 to but quieter (the VQ35 is loads smoother and quieter than the old VG33 engine)

I think with the FX and RX their aero design probably has a lower drag coefficient so you probably will notice less wind noise. I remember the FX being a bit noisy because of the 20" tires and the exhaust.

it's gonna snow in NYC tomorrow, so I need to move the cars around to get the parking spot.
once I jump off my 2004 525i and sit inside of the QX4, I really feel like driving a truck.
QX4 was not cheap when it was new. (don't get me wrong, I'm a crazy Nissan fan)
I think I might go check the belts etc.
