So the other night I was driving with my girlfriend to her house when all the sudden my incar thermo starts reading really hot.. basically H.. so when I got there, I checked my radiator and overflow and it wasnt empty, but I had to add half a thing of coolant.

When we had finished my swap I knew i had a small leak but I didnt think it was that bad. I couldnt see huge puddles of the stuff under my car.. just little drops..

well today I was going to Anumerics hosue and all th sudden it started reading hot again.. so i pulled into the gas station, checked under the car.. and i saw a huge puddle.. within seconds of pulling up.. i had a huge puddle under my car. I looked in the engine bay and saw it leaking from around middle on the intake side. Is my water pump going bad? I added more coolant and drove home so Im just waiting to here whats up

middle on intake side? middle of block? there are heater hoses that run right by the intake so either that or a freeze plug. snag a coolant system pressure tester and you'll find out real quick.

reminds me of my old 99 dsm had port and polished head and my lower radiator aquired a slice in it. My coolant temp went half way to h and cracked my head in an exhaust runner

Probably a heater hose, or the turbo water supply hose. Could be the oil cooler water hoses.

Get a bright light under there while it's hot to find where it's squirting out.

well, anumeric came over today and we took a look at what the problem was. turned out it was a heater house near the back that had two bursts in it. Taking it off was pretty easy, went to Lowes, grabbed a new one, installed it. Everythings all good now! Thanks for the help guys!

The CA is pretty stout, and a lot of people on here have overheated them numerous times w/o a noticable problem, but keep in mind this is still a cast iron block, and aluminum head. The dissimilar metals expand and contract at different rates and you can very easily warp the head and not know it. I suspect the stock HG is very forgiving.

I've also got a water pump question. The car is not drivable yet, I'm doing some rewiring right now, but anyway everytime I go to work on the car (its at a friends shop right now) I check oil and water before I start it up. I have to put water in it everytime I go out there to work on it. I'm using the de water pump. Doesn't smoke when I start it up. Got the 195 degree thermostat.

Might be like my dsm. I was rebuilding her because of a snapped timing belt and put crower cams, titanium valve springs/retainers, and 3 angle valve seats along with the port and polished head. It took a while because of waiting on parts, etc so the car sat for a while with no head or pistons, oil, water, etc in the car, just the bare block, crank, and transmission. After putting it all back together a week later my water pump blew from sitting without coolant for so long. The seal went which sucked b/c it was run on my timing which ment I had to re time my motor, take a motor mount out, a bunch of stuff. Anyway point being when they go, they go in force normally. I had leaked out 2 gallons of coolant in like 3 minutes. Quickest way to know exactly is to rent a coolant pressure tester from shucks/checkers, napa, autozone, whatever or find someone with one (they cost upwards of $150 new), slap it on there and look for the water comin out! As for the de water pump im not sure Water pump 21010-V5528 (CA18) until 8/90Water pump 21010-V5529 (CA18) from 8/90Water pump 21010-52F00 (SR20 all)Use a CA18ET waterpump from an S12Thermostat 21200-V0201 (CA18 all) 82.0 CThermostat 21200-V0206 (CA18 all) 88.0 CThermostat 21200-53J00 (SR20 all) parts list is stickyed on the top of teh ca fourm

Alright, I'm just going to change out the water pump. I'll get the ET water pump this time. I can get it at advance auto parts for like $37.
