Both problems seem related to a bad coolant temp sensor, oxygen sensor, or both, or ...?drzsnapj wrote:2 issues i need some advice in:
1. i have read many post here about normal idling on the sr20det and they all say 850rpm's is normal, but my issue is that my car idles normaly at 1100rpm's. ocasionally it drops down to 900rpm's but when get to that range the car shakes a little as if it wants to shut off. could this be an issue with my timing?
2. another thing is that when i am in any gear and im slowing down, at around 3000rpm's to about 2300rpm's the car backfires. is that normal or is that a vacuum leak?
I have similar issues at times....my car likes to backfire when i am decellarating at about 1500 rpm's...big backfire...I also thought it was timing related. I run no thermostat....could that have something to do with it as well?? my car starts and idles like a stocker but the backfiring thing bothers me.bruinbear714 wrote:

Seems like something is causing your car to run rich.
If you run no thermostat your gas mileage is probably shot to hell. Running your engine as cold as possible is a bad idea. The ECU will always enrich fuel since it'll think the engine is still "cold".91SilviaKs wrote:
