Octane has nothing to do with the ability for gas to burn. When fuel is atomized and mixed with oxygen, it only needs a heat source to ignite it.atn_chargers wrote:I live in Albuquerque and we are as high up in elevation as Denver. I think the reason why we only have 91 octane is because our air is really thin...so anything over 91 might have a hard time burning.
Different ECU.. the Coupe is tuned for Premium.SVTCOBRA wrote:OK, since we are talking Octane and G's....
WHO CAN TELL ME WHY A COUPE ENGINE REQUIRES PREM AND A SEDAN ENGINE DOES NOT BASED ON THE MANUALS........ISN"T IT THE SAME FREAKING ENGINE???
I've asked this before and never got an answer.
If I do not get an answer I WILL CONTINUE TO ONLY TYPE WITH CAPS ON!!!!!!!
Depending on where the stations picked up their fuel it may actually have come out of the same storage tank. I would not worry about mixing the fuels from different stations, especially since you are mixing half and half of the same octane.atn_chargers wrote:I'm about to go on a roadtrip with my g35. Right now its sitting at half tank (chevron). The gas station near my house is a shell. So does it matter if I fill the rest of the tank up with Shell?? Different gas stations have different amount of detergnets right?
Gosh darnedit Rich.... Its because you never asked ME.The simple reason is the ECM tuning. The parameters in the coupe ECM are set higher than the sedan, with 20 less hp, and even in the series 2, when they both have 280 in auto form, the coupe has a bit more midrange power because of its different ECM tuning.SVTCOBRA wrote:OK, since we are talking Octane and G's....

Not only did I not see any benefit using 91 octane, I didn't see any benefit from the month I used Sunoco 93.Kendahl wrote: (Telcoman runs his G35 on 87 octane and wouldn't get any benefit from from 91 octane.)
I don't worry about the brand. For several years I regularly bought gas at a neighborhood bar with a couple of pumps out front because they had the lowest prices in town. I have no idea where the gas came from. My cars ran fine on it.
Actually the compression ratio in your engine is asking for it. Not the same thing as the 16 year old in BB trying to sell you a service contract.telcoman wrote:

I'm back to WaWa 87 octane and my G and my wallet loves it
So Infiniti recommends premium
Spend $50 in Best Buy and they recommend a service contract
Telcoman
Well the saving does pay for my morning Dunkin Donuts coffee.I can't afford Starbucks nor would I pay their prices as a matter of principle.marlin29311 wrote:

And I'm sure the extra $2 is keeping your cupholder filled with cheap coffee
They are not open anyway when I leave for work. Dunkin Donuts is 24/708.black.G37 wrote:Aw come on man....my daughter works at Starbucks. It's worth the money.
I must say that I've heard DD has the best coffee...I'm not a drinker myself, but I know my mom pretty much has it on IV right now...telcoman wrote:
