i got a friend with a ka-t AE86 so im sure he knows what hes doing lol

but the main problem is being able to afford it

so then i have to chose between getting a used clutch and being able to do the swap before this weekend if i can get sombody thats not my dad to help me since he has work,

or drive with this really ****ty clutch for another month untill i can afford a nice brand new clutch

and since im not gonna do that second one, im gonna put a used one on. Other thing is i gotta get my flywheel resurfaced, so i gotta find a shop around here to do that, and i gotta get another $40 somehow

i dont believe you. theres always job oppurtunities. get a universal job application. fill it out, make 30 copies, and go jobplace to jobplace asking for management, then telling them youre looking for a job, shake their hand, and ask if they are hiring or have any openings. i'll bet my truck that you will get a few call backs.

i went to pretty much every single place in town, and for everybody its "oh your not 18, **** you"

i got hired at mcdonalds but they would never give me ANY hours. I know people who worked more hours in a day than i got to work in the 2 months that ive been working there. Ive gotten three days and only 3 hours each, so its pretty much like not having a job

once i find another job im gonna quit mcdonalds and collect my $20 paycheck

I talked to the manager at outback steakhouse, and i told him id work any hour he could possibly need me for, and that i desperatley needed the job, and he said hed call me back early next week (this week)

so im gonna hope i get this job

yup but just like i said above, they wont give me any hours, so its just like not having a job

as far as play in the clutch pedal... i dont really know what you mean lol

the pedal has maybe an inch of play that itl move back and fourth from tapping with my foot, but i think thats just cause its old and loose im guessing, since my gas is like that too but with like two millimeters

one thing i did notice however, the clutch pedal isnt as stiff as it used to be, and its pretty soft to push in

now whats wierd, is ive heard that the clutch usually gets stiffer to push in when it gets bad

the only two other cars ive driven that were stick were both new cars, so its hard to compare. 08 GTI and a honda fit haha

i don't think a sr clutch would work, different transmission's. When your clutch pedal is just sitting there, can you move it back and forth with your hand a little? This play is vital for proper wear of the clutch, in some cases a pedal adjustment is all that's needed to fix a slipping clutch

ok, then you need a new clutch. Don't get a used one or anything, it's a pita to do a clutch so just get a good one and be done with it. Go either exedy or oem

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors....m245

the off brand ones work good I hear but the clutch pedal is really stiff when you get into the higher stage levels. My friend's stage four was a freakin leg press, you'd compress it like an inch and shift lol. I'd say you could run a stage 2 or so, but the pedal is gonna be stiffer if you don't mind. But i'd recommend an OE replacement since high hp levels are probably not gonna be in the near future and you are DD your car, you don't want a really stiff pedal for traffic, etc.

welll right now i can pick up an exedy OEM for $115 or i can order the XTD which ive heard pretty good things about

i cant find a stage 1 but heres the stage 2 which is basically the same price as the exedy OEM with the hookup price

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors....m245

my current clutch pedal is already stiff (compared to the other cars ive driven that are stick, where you press it and it just goes right down without much resistance at all), so im used to it

also, when i install the new clutch, i wanna ajust the pedal so theres no play, how would i do that?

between the two (exedy or XTD stage 2), which would you pick?

The stage 2 XTD sounds pretty good, and I've heard some good things about the off brand clutches. It looks like a very "streetable" clutch, I would get it

Also, you need play in your clutch pedal. As the clutch wears thinner and thinner, the pressure plate has to travel further and further to make full contact of the clutch and this is where the play in the clutch pedal is used. Without any play in your pedal, the clutch will begin to wear and your clutch pedal will not allow the pressure plate to make the full clamping force and slipping/premature wear can result

The FSM should say about 1" to 1.5" of play is normal.

well my clutch is already worn to the point where i can be in 5th or 4th gear at 2k and floor it, and itl slip right up to 3 or even 4k, and it still has play

also, i read somewhere (mighta been this thread actually) that a slipping clutch could just be from a pedal thats not ajusted properly

yeah i said that lol, that would be in a case with NO pedal play. In your case, you are gonna need a new clutch for sure, pretty soon your car will not even be driveable

So get that XTD clutch and a 40 dollar resurface and get that bisch done!!

xtd is a cheap knock off brand. my buddy got a "stage 2" xtd clutch, it was a stock clutch with the pressure plate spray painted (literaly had overspray on the box) red, and was a stock clutch disc. it lasted 6 months. i got him a stock equivalent by rhinopac, and it lasted 2 years, and is still in the car.

get the exedy, do the job this weekend.

you may need to jack the front of your engine up a little so the transmission can slide out easier

im doing it on a lift so that should be a little easyer

i guess im just gonna raise it enough to get under that way i can still use a jack to support the transmission

would it be a good idea to get new transmission mounts since its gonna be out? or is that just too much money that i dont have

Skip the transmission mount unless you need it.

There are several good posts about transmission removal/install. It's really tight around the firewall. Rotate the transmission clockwise gradually about 100 degrees as you pull it back. Do the reverse on install. You may need to loosen the engine mounts and raise the front of the engine a bit to tilt it for extra room.

i think the transmission mount can be changed with the transmission in the car and it's not that hard of a job. Keep your old one and save the money.
