can anyone think of some reasons it would not be a smart move to put an rb26 in a g35 coupe if installation was not a problem. im talking about things like maybe a bad balance of the car or driving issues. thanks.

It's possible and been done. Not sure why it's such a big deal lately though; pretty damn expensive swap as most everything is custom I'm sure. Plus losing almost a liter of displacement and gaining weight seems like an odd choice over an engine as good as the VQ35, but I guess if you're going for huge power you might aswell use a proven powerplant?

What's your budget for this project?

it would be a bad idea if the car was your daily driver since passing emmision inspection would be next to impossible. other than that, no idea. car should handle the same if not a little better. Power would be good. and turbo engines are just plain fun. hope you got a ton of $$$ for the swap though. its not exactly a bolt in.

THIS is a much crazier thing to throw in your G35 than any RB.

well if it's just a shell with no vq in it then i would do it. i would use the g shell and throw the 350gt badges (i think that's the g35 jdm badges) on it and i don't know why i would. are they both 6speed shells? well that's mo but why not use the vq35?

when i started learning about cars for some reason i started to learn about skylines. i fell in love with i6 engines and i like the rb26. ihave nothing against the vq35 i just like the idea of having a nissan with an rb26 in the US that will not have all of the legal problems that owning a skyline might have. and the shell would be all that i get. i would use the rb25 or the 26 trany. so depending on the trans it will be 6 or 5 spd

i seen a 350z in one oh my au mags that has the z trans with a adaptor plate to the rb26. that could be a option for you. the chassis is up to you but i would go with the g35.

If I had a G35, I would simply rebuild it with forged rods and pistons and turbo it. For the amount you pay for an RB26 and all the fabrication work, it would be relatively cheap and easy. Not to mention parts are going to be much more readily available in the future. Hell, the latest 240 is almost 9 years old.

i wouldn't do the swap if i have a G35. don't do the transplant. unless you found the shell at the junk yard. drop a twin turbo kit in and be merry. you'll retain all your luxury accessories the ladies like, booty points!!!

anyone know if the straight 6 engines in bmw can handle turbo and heavy mods as well as an rb engine. do u think it would cost alot more to modify a bmw engine.

I am currently in the process of doing this swap in my 350Z. Got the whole rb26 engine and everything pretty close to completely torn down this weekend and I plan on taking the VQ out and sell it and the twin turbo setup in the next couple of weeks to fund the rest of the rb swap.

First of JE's swap kit has not been released yet. There are a few of us on my350z.com doing this swap and one guy has contacted JE on a few times and they still haven't given a date or price range yet. Personally though, I am fabricating all of my own mounts.

Secondly, the big ***** of this swap is the wiring. You have to retain the factory ecu in the 350Z/G35 chassis if you want to keep any of your basic funtions...headlights, gauges, windows, etc, and most importantly the CAN bus. There is a company who tried to run a full standalone Motec M600 on thier 350Z racecar and literally nothing worked anymore, so they had to run the Motec for the engine and the stock ECU for the body electrical system.

So just think about how you plan on this before you dump yourself into a swap. It doesn't matter how much money you have to do the swap....if you don't plan it out properly it is going to be a bigger headache than it is worth.
