Tie rods aren't bad and I was able to do mine with no prior experience in about an hour. I just followed the instructions in my factory service manual. Never tried to change a whole rack out but it shouldn't be too difficult if you have the instructions and torque specs. Invest in a FSM if you are going to be doing a lot of your own work. Mine was about $60 and worth every penny.

rods and ends are no prob by themselves. changing racks might be a PITA. dont mess up the plumbing fittings and get an alignment afterwards.

i have changed out my whole rack before.used the help of my friend too.it wasn't TOO hard, but it did have it's difficult points.biggest problem we had was getting the steering shaft back into the little "pocket" it goes in, that is connected to the rack.other than that, it was fairly straightforward.

watch out for the P/S fittings. They will hate you forever if everything is not perfect. Other than that, it's pretty basic.
