i'm new to this site and i finally got my first car which is a hand me down from my big bro and its a '93 240sx (because he moved to an evo VIII)
Image
me being 16, i can't really afford all of the costs of having such a low and cool-looking (in my opinion haha) car.
its lowered on stance coil overs and sits about 3 inches off of the ground
so as i see it..
pros:
looks cool
handles awsome
looks really cool
cons:
the ride is reallyyyy rough
my exhaust scrapes a lot
my roads suck
its hard to jack the car up
it actually sounds like my car is about to rattle apart
the only way it clears the fenders (even tho they're rolled) is by cambering it out which like wears out the tires faster and i cant rotate them because the back are 10 inches wide and the fronts are 8
and the tires have to be stretched to clear which i think is awsome but ya
oh and its stretching tires dangerous? my dad always gets on me about that
so far i love this car to the max and i can't see myself selling it
but i'm sure thats how everyone feels like in the beginning or something

1) Retardedly low cars DO NOT handle that good. Trust me, I know. They handle BETTER than stock, but once you invert the LCAs, it kills any suspension travel and kills any handling you've got.
2) Yes, it looks really cool.
3) The ride is only rough because of the coilovers, not due to being low.
4) EVERYONE says their roads suck. Fact of life.
5) Having camber doesn't make the tires wear faster, it only determines WHERE the tire wheres. Toe creates extra friction, causing more tire wear.
6) Tire stretching isn't dangerous.
7) Having a low car is indeed fun, and it does look cool. However, it takes some getting used to to drive low. Avoid bumps and slow down A LOT for big dips and you'll be fine.
8) The "rattling" is from the car being 20+ years old; the coilovers don't help at all.

Suck it up bro.

I'm 16 too and my car is about as low as yours (which really isn't even that low).

And you're complaining about jacking it up? Haha, just drive on a couple blocks of wood before you try to put the jack under it. Quit whining and be glad you have a nice looking car to drive. :)

I agree with everything ILoveMyRHS13 said. I think you just gotta make a decision for yourself on which is more important: Looking good or ride quality/handling.

Personally, I'd rather be looking good with a low car. I don't need prodigious amounts of handling ability for a daily driver that rarely sees track time. Nor do I need it to ride like a Lexus... thats why I have 2 cars. One for uncompromising fun and one for comfort and practicality.

Ok I will trade you all the stock stuff that you want( which is pretty new since I have rebuilt half my car just to drive it daily), for all the stuff that you don't want or cant stand having on your car (coilovers, wheells, etc.) because it costs to much or what ever and I will even install all the stuff for you. How about that lol jk unless you really want to but anyway i have a simple solution to your problem with ride comfort and all that stuff. Either raise those coils, trade them out for some softer struts and springs , try and get used to it I mean the car is going to rattle ( mine does and its completely stock), or do what ever was said above accept trade for parts cause thats our deal lol.

Get a job. Problem solved. Keep the car the way it is. You're 16 years old, and your car will be the only asset to your name until you're 30 and can buy a house. That being said, your car will also be the biggest aid in getting you laid for the next few years and this car is baller. You can't just UN-modify a 240 dude, just think about how much tail your brother got in this car... :naughty:

i bought a house at 22. i've owned 3 240's, not one of them was the reason, nor did any of them aid in me getting vagina. i have, however, been given thumbs up and approached by guys, interpret that as you will. with that being said, your logic is invalid.

What I meant by "aid" is that he will need some means of transoprt to locales to make sex ie: cheap motel, dark alley, college parking lot, strawberry field. That being said, everyone knows only japanese girls and filipino lady-boys like 240s.

They, in fact, are vagina repellent :frown: Every girl I've dated hates them... both S13 & S14. Why? I have no idea. Chicks... :gotme

You only need to worry about those with a lowered car. :chuckle:

wow, what a fantastic hand me down dude, you're really lucky, the car looks clean :)

it depends, really.

lowering makes the car look soooo much better but after you've hit about 3 potholes and scraped your front lip/underside everywhere you'll begin to rethink it.
I dunno what roads are like where you're at....
it just makes you a more cautious driver and takes a little more work to keep the car in tip top shape.

Lowering your car is amazing, it looks good slammed. There are only a few drawbacks. If your roads are bad, you have to find alternate ways of getting to where you need to. You have 4 major enemies. Railroad tracks, Speedbumps, Downward Driveways (very tricky) and Potholes. You need to be soo careful around all of em. After a weeks of driving a lowered car you will get used to the routine, and will be able to dodge potholes like a champ. Best grand ive ever spent :D
