yeah it definetly poses a good question because the car drives faster in manual mode and prefer to drive it that way than auto but ive had 2 transmission jobs a year apart and im wondering if its because of that or the transmisson just has issueS because alot of ppl been complaining about it and all of a sudden they up the warranty so it makes you wonder and no one not even NISSAN themselves know because i asked the tech if that was the case he says he doesnt know for sure but then he tells me how to drive it so HMMMMMM!!!??????

I had the same question as well. I am a new owner, and I asked my retailer about this. This is what they have told me.

- The CVT doesn't have a "clutch" per-say, its based on a "belt" system(????). So there isn't any "parts" to wear out if you are driving in the CVT "shift-tronic" mode.
- The manual mode is a "simulation" of manual transmission, and works based on electric currents. It breaks the AT's full RPM spectrum into different parts.

So basically, from what I understand, you are still in AT mode, it just simulates MT.

Any correction from more experienced mechanics or owners are welcome. :)

i'm no auto engineer but i have gone from driving solely in drive to almost entirely manual mode for a few months and recently back to just drive.

it does feel to me like there's a fair amount of stress put on the transmission when using manual mode, mostly when gearing down for
steep hills and such.

it could be perfectly fine but it just has a "wear" feel to it.

now that i'm in just drive mode again the constant need to brake is really annoying but the stress "feel" on the transmission seems much lower, it feels like it's more in a chill mode almost all the time (at the expense of the brake pads which are much cheaper).

just my .02
