Check this out...

I wanted to try to do a burn out last night on a whim just because I have never did one.

Well I tried and couldnt tell if I did it right becuase it was dark and my back window is tinted...LOL Anyway I got a weird burning smell while attempting. I thought it was the tires...but I the smeel was familiar to me (I had a clutch go out on my Isuzu Rodeo awhile back before my Nissan days)

So on teh drive home, first gear is good. Second is BAD. Third is BAD and I think 4th is BAD. When I would shift and give it gas the RPM's would go to like 4000 then drop down. All the while, my **** wasn't going any faster. It did the samething. It still drives, but I smelled the burning smeel againa dn I wasnt doing burnouts this time. SO my question is, is my clutch saying bye bye. Also there was some debate. DOes teh RB20 use the Z32 N/A clutch or SR20 clutch??? I have read conflicting things on this

Clutch is SMOKED! Thats how my 240 was on the drive from the southern tip of New Jersey, where I got the car, to Albany New York, where I live. It's alot of fun to stomp the accelerator and hear the motor rev......but feel NOTHING!!!!

THATS THE FIRST THING I'M DOING IS REPLACING THE CLUTCH. I'M GOING TO USE A Z32 N/A CLUTCH IF NOT I'LL RETURN IT AND ORDER A SR20 CLUTCH.

I think my failed burnout attempt finally killed it. I called and they want to charge me by the hour since it is a High performance vehicle:rolleyes. I said it was a driect drop in and I need a 300zx clutch. They said probably 4 hours. I can understand though. HE said they got burned because some guy dropped a 350 in his truck and welded **** together...WTF!!?? So when they went to change whatever it was, they had to do ALOT fo work. I live in a hick town, but this place is good and my wife has a credit card there so I dont have to up any money up front. So 300zx N/A. I need to get this done ASAP. I have to have two cars. DAMNIT.....

**** one more thing....

I was reading on teh internet (while looking at clutch prices) that it is highly recommended you dont resurface the flywheel on 300ZX's. That you get a new one. So would that go for the RB20 as well

I resurfaced my flywheel (RB25DET) and it seems fne so far...What reason did they give for not resurfacing it?

I used the one from the clip, it was REAL meaty. Just resurfaced the flywheel, it had some surface rust going on.

Due to the design of the release system for the clutch on this vehicle, the flywheel should NOT be machined. If in doubt about the condition of the flywheel, DO NOT resurface it, but REPLACE it with a new unit! NSC909; NSD053A; BRG810

I got this fromhttp://www.oem-import-auto-parts.com

From what I've read I thought the RB25 used the Z32 clutch and the RB20 uses one from an SR20. I know I remember reading a post by someone that said they've put an SR20 clutch in every RB20 they've had. Now I just wish I could remember who it was that posted that.

WELL ONE THING IS THE RB25 transmission WILL BOLT UP TO THE RB20 WITHOUT CHANGING THE CLUTCH OR FLYWHEEL SO I THINK IF THE Z32 CLUTCH FITS THE RB25 THEN IT'LL FIT THE RB20.

The RB25 has a FLAT clutch surface and there is no reason that you can not resurface it to insure the clutch will work correctly. RE- balance ?? if done right should not need it..

IF YOU HAVE TO GO WITH SR20 GET A MAXIMA CLUTCH 84-01 AND ITS THE SAME AS A SR20.

Okay I have a dilemma

I called my local Nissan dealer and asked how much a clutch kit fora Z32 was and they said 144.99. This is includes:clutchpressure platethrowout bearing

The people who are going to replace the clutch want 406.27 for a clutch...WTF??? The Nissan dealer here is kinda dumb (bunch of hicks) but that is a HUGE price difference. But I SPECIFICALLY asked the parts guy what came with the kit and he said the exact **** I typed above. And the mechanic place said the exact same thing too. Why the 300 plus difference in price. And now they want to be ***holes on telephone. LOL I call back and they want 250 for the turbo. I said I want NON TURBO ****ing slut. I dont even think he checked the price on teh non turbo. Ima call our autozone equivalent. They want 179 for one. Not bad. I REFUSE to pay 407 bucks for a ****ing clutch kit. EBAY time....LOL too bad it is locked at work. Or I'll just have to wait. I wanted to get my exhaust done this weekend too. Damn priorities

Working car vs ****ed up clutch with a free flowing exhaust:mad:

You will be buying a stock set up from Nissan and the one for 400 from the shop may be more a performance app. If you plan to run this thing like as in the 1/4 or do things like you tried doing a stocker may not last as long as you would like it to. Just my thoughts.
