Found a set of jwt s3 cams USED for pretty cheap. Are they any good? and is buying used cams even a good idea?

my set up will be- s15 spec r turbo, 15psi, 9:1, 96 octane vp fuel. so I was planning on getting poncams because the duration would complement that turbo but the lift of the s3 cams is larger, so are tomei poncams the better choice regardless of price?

I would think as long as they're in good shape, ie look like new, no scoring or damage, well taken care of, they should be fine. My stock cams are in great shape, hell even my old ka cam looked fine with 300+ Km on it. Beware the old adage, If it looks too good to be true... guy could be trying to dump them because there's something wrong with them.

I heard good stuff about JWT, Id like to get one of their ecu reflashes in the future. But I don't know if it was the "S" cams or the "C" cams that required stiffer springs or a solid rocker setup

Generally, if they are in good shape, no scoring or gouges on the lobes you should be good to go. I wouldn't buy used cams that have high mileage on them though. I've bought a used set of Toda's, they looked perfect so I bought em. Ask for multiple pictures, you see anything that looks fishy, ask for a closer shot of that area.

The S series cams from JWT do not need upgraded springs, they are designed to work with the factory parts. The C series are more aggressive and require spring and lifter modifications.
