Hey Guys noob question here.....

So I bought some caliper covers cause I like the look but dont want to paint them.....

They however do not mount very easily. So the guy at Lowes said to try bondo to fill the space, to allow flush mounting.....

Now Im worried that the bondo will melt because I didnt buy the pre-mixed bondo, and Im not sure if I mixed it well enough.....

So what suggestions do you guys have??

Should I not worry cause the bondo will hold up against the heat of my brakes??

Should I just abandon the bondo idea all together?

Do you know of something that will work better???

Thanks!!!

automotive bondo actually heats up while hardening. and using a heat gun actually speeds up the process. I dont understand why your wanting to use bondo on your calipers?

They way that the calipers are it doesnt allow for a flush/easy glue mounting so I wanted to add something to make it alittle smoother.... And I used a heat gun on it cause I also was under the impression that heat sped up the process... but when I used the heat gun it got softer... So Im assuming that It was a failure on my part as far as mixing going.....

So you do not think the bondo will melt onto my brake if it heats up...

As I am a spirited driver

caliper covers? you mean the hollow covers that you put over your stock calipers to make them look like a BBK? if you're planning on putting bondo to adhere these onto your stock calipers, then what happens if you ever need to change out your old calipers or brakes? isn't bondo kinda... permanant?

Yes and Yes the blacks questions however the bondo isnt the adhesive Im using its the FILLER Im using the make the attachment to the calipers flush.... I have another type of adhesive that I picked up at advanced auto parts

By the time Im changing out calipers I'll hopefully have money to buy the real Brembo bakes....

I just think my look is better looking than the guys that are painting there calipers.... no offense to those guys that are doing that I just like my look better

...just like rebadging your car to something it isn't. On that note, I just saw a Mazda Protegé with a GT-R badge on it........

So what do you think..... Will the bondo heat up and melt on to calipers or do you know of something else that will work in its place??

Well, at the very least I can appreciate the fact that you're ignoring the criticism and still attempting to get your question answered.

I'm sure you can get a type of bondo that's relatively impervious to heat. Another avenue you might want to consider is a high strength epoxy in just the right places. It'll hold the caliper covers in place really well and won't weigh the whole piece down in doing so. I'm fairly certain I've seen some heat-resistant epoxy in the hardware stores before.

...yet another idea would be to NOT PUT THEM ON IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! I can be tenacious too....... lol

Good luck and let us know which route you choose!

just post the pictures on here when you have them installed so we can all see how they look. i'm sure they'll look good, i considered trying this since i can't afford a real bbk and nobody would know the difference unless they looked really closely or i told them. but i thought it might not be a good idea with glueing covers onto my calipers, which produce a lot of heat. the last thing i would want to have happen is something going wrong with my brakes because i wanted my calipers to look good.

as for sticking them on, i would think that some high temp silicone might work as well

i painted my calipers and it came out pretty nice IMO (you can see it in my sig). i painted mine because i dont see a BBK as something really worth the money. if i put a Turbo kit then ya i understand. but stock or with little bolt ons, i think the stock brakes are more then enough. painting is really easy and looks nice.
