If you did not introduce air into the system (loosen the bleeder bolts on the calipers at any point during the brake job or break any of the brake lines - check if there are any fluid leaks), then you should have exactly the same amount of air in the system as before the brake job.
Is it possible your new pads just aren't as strong as the old ones? Also, did you remember to sandpaper the rotors to get the old material off?
Don't forget to check if your brake master cylinder fluid is at the right level. If you didn't bleed fluid, the fluid level will rise when you compress the caliper pistons. Although this is unrelated to the problems you're experiencing, you probably don't want brake fluid all over your engine bay.
