Think there may be 4 active here? And maybe from time to time a random help post that never shows back up? I haven't even passed a Q45 on the road in like 8 years other than my own.

Hello? (Hello, hello, hello) Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone home? Come on (Come on, come on), now. I hear you're...

We've all become - comfortably numb.

This forum is pretty sad. There are not many people helping keep these cars on the road anymore.

I think it's a function of there not being many left on the road - and the ones that are are in younger hands that go to facebook groups for answers, instead of here. I try to help in a couple of those when I can, but it's not the same. If you want the full automotive forum experience, you need a 4Runner or Tacoma. They still have very active groups.

I agree with everyone that there is just not enough of these cars still on the road to have a super active forum. My daughter still loves her 1997 Q45T but I know there will be a time when the cost of getting some of the parts is not going to be justifiable. Sort of related question does anyone have experience ordering from amayama.com ? Looking for front struts

I've used Amayama for most of the parts I've replaced on my '90 - they're pretty much the only source for OEM Nissan parts that are all discontinued in the US. You'll have to check with them though, I've heard that they won't ship struts for some reason, pressurization issues during flight causing problems maybe?

Shipped rear struts from them about 3 years ago. Not sure what would have changed. I know they wouldn't ship paint touch up bottles as they were flammable.

It makes sense why this forum is inactive. These cars are great, they just keep running. But its hard to address the small problems due to parts being unavailable and the general lack of repair support online.
I've been putting off knock sensors on my 1997 for months and months now because I don't know what to buy for the job. If you add up all the rubber hoses down there on Amayama it'd probably be like $1000

I spent about $500 at Amayama on just the hoses for my '90, but that included radiator hoses and some power steering hoses as well. I sourced OEM Hitachi knock sensors through RockAuto, and OEM Nissan radiator caps and thermostat through PartSouq.

I just reluctantly had the a/c compressor replaced (2nd time) on mine. $200+ for the part I brought a few months ago to stagger off the entire job cost. And then $400+ for the labor to install. I was going to do half of it myself, but when I went to disconnect the line, there was still a lot of charge and oil in the system even though the refrigerant wasn’t enough to click the compressor.

A/C is a must in a hot and rainy area, even driving down the street the windows will fog up in rain, or it’ll be so hot that within 20 minutes I’m drenched. So I went ahead with it, but I would have been happier if I could have just replaced the compressor myself and only went in for the recharge.

Now my front struts are worn down and can’t find replacements yet. It’s like I feel stupid in some ways to keep it up, but I’ve done enough work to where it drives so well. Hate to drop a car over shock absorbers lol. But it’s funny that my Nissan maxima has been virtually expensive-maintenance free (most times if I did get big estimates, it was typical tie rod stuff, with motor mounts and rack and pinion being the biggest expenses), even with me behind on repairs. The rear shocks are old, but not blown. The compressor is noisy but still blows cold. Suspension and shocks are easily found. They just really made that one, much more solid and accessible.

I don’t regret getting the Q at all, but the QX4 or i30 probably would have been more accessible (except I don’t like i30s as much as most I’ve seen are horribly neglected and QX4/4Runners aren’t let go so easily). Except when I brought it in 2017…it was still in the market fairly often. Seems Covid supply chain had done something to f*** up part availability, and that I didn’t foresee.

I’ll likely hold onto it until I relocate to my next destination and then see if I can get a decent price from it. Carvana offered me $100 towards a trade, which is f*** comical but not even funny.

Right now I live in a place where everyone drives American cars and big pickup trucks. So I can pick up that the mechanics don’t seem too interested in helping me keep it up unless I chase them down and they think I’m crazy or something lol. But at the end of the day, I’ve seen way older cars on the road or in a rougher shape. Plus I don’t have a work commute, and mainly use it for highway rides.

You're right, the mobile experience is hot garbage at the moment - I have given up on it. Desktop is 100% ad free for me, AdBlock Plus may be doing a great job of providing that experience for me. I know there are changes to how we handle ads taking place as we speak, so hopefully that'll help with mobile browser usability.

This site has ads aids, Every page I have click on reader view and hide all the distracting items or it’s just unusable & unreadable.

Granted, I paid $400 for my POS q45 and I’m just ripping the engine and trans out to stick it in something else because it’s so hogged out by the previous owner, luckily no rust but plenty of dents and scratches in general grossness.

But yeah, Nico admin’s please please cover up all the s*** I wanna read and see with more ads. Thank you.

Follow up post here: my (2nd) a/c replacement was well worth it. It’s very cool and comfortable. Pressures working on spec. No clogs, no leaks lol.

Just the other day I changed the cabin air filter and sprayed down the evaporator with duct/evap cleaner (this is a must that I think is often overlooked when doing these filter changes).

At this point, my Q is riding like new. Only issue is the failing paint job, which I want to do but: I’m in the $1,500-$3,000 range depending how much I want to do.

I may end up trading out to something newer next year. The Infiniti lineup is timeless. But having 2 other vehicles, I can kinda afford to keep something older. At the same time, dealers have become more picky: some not wanting to service anything over a certain age or mileage. And discontinued parts are a real pain.
