The 89's had slightly higher compression than the 90's (9.1:1 vs 8.6:1), and from what i hear, the 91's had the best cams (as far as DOHCs).

89-90 had the sohc engines while 91-94 had the dohc engines. There is only like a 5-10 hp difference from the two.

I think all s13's had same suspension but 91's had super HICAS w/ vlsd.

JNM240 is right, the '91 240 ihas the best cams meaning higher redline 7k RPM. Suspension wise they're all the same. I'd say HICAS would be the best buy.

The fuel economy is pretty lousy.

Typically '91 to '93 cars are the best... Good mid-range power, lots of upgrades availiable, and much more convenient for an SR20 swap.

If you plan to swap drivetrains then I'd say get an early model S13, you can save some money for the swap by getting a car that's older/higher mileage.

S13CoupeLuvr: For an SR swap, why does it matter if the car had a KA24E or DE? From what I know they're all pretty much interchangeable.

I've had a 91 and 93 and the cams are the same. The later s13's are easier for swaps due to their power steering lines. The Super Hicas has a few things that are nice and some things that are not. They have a bigger rear sway, and LSD, but Ive heard the Hicas is unpredictable drifting and weird for autoX

Gas mileage lousy? I think it's pretty good for being 2.4L. It's almost as big as some v-6s that run low 20 and high teens in mpg. A good 240 will run about 25 mpg. That I wouldn't call lousy.

SCC said the swap was easier on DOHC cause the power steering lines match up. IIRC, the SOHC requires some bending or custom lines.

89-90 SOHC - 140hpfunny theyre rated the same, even with different comp ratio

91-94 DOHC - 155hp94's are convertibles only

as far as the cams go, see Orion's post (its the 2nd to last post) in this threadhttp://www.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=79606

Ive read lotsa different things about S13 cams. But that is the first time Ive heard that explanation. Orion seems to know his stuff, so that senerio is completely possible, IMO.

nissandrift must have a early 93 model.
