Hi everyone...I love the website...I just wanted to start by saying I currently own a 2010 Altima 2dr...the question I have is I really want to get a 370z nismo...in your opinion is there an age limit on one of these...I am 38 years old and wasn't sure if I may be getting on the older end to be owning such a sporty style of the 370z models...what is your opinions thanks so much

Hell with that, drive what you'd like!
If you're divorced or recently single (or something along those lines), the Nismo says that you're of an age to afford the car but made a more financially responsible choice of the Z over the 'vette, Boxster, or other "pen15 extender."

Hell, we have a few much older folks on the board who have Z's and restored Z's of various vintages.

If you're mechanically apt, go for an older 260z and make it awesome!

nope not recently divorced or newly single...just plain single lol...but yeah I am not greatly mechanically inclined and would rather just have a nice new car lol...

I guess I was just thinking it looks so tunerish looking that it seems more like a 25-35 year old persons car...ive never actually seen one in person as I live in a very small town with no major city for 4 hours around...I guess the next model 370 down is also an option as it is not so aggressive but I like the aggressiveness and that's probably the inner kid talking in me lol

what I kind of meant is 40 year olds driving like 1990 civics etc...that are fully kitted and all that fun stuff doesn't seem appropriate to there age

being never seen a 370 nismo in person for all I know they could be extremely tasteful to the eye for all ages...

just wondering about peoples thoughts on this sort of topic that's all :dblthumb:

thanks again

I like to think being older makes the Z ownership experience superior as you better understand/appreciate it for what it is. And that is: a fun, traditional, reasonably priced RWD sports car. FWIW, I'm considerably older than you and I drive a mostly stock 350Z. (no body kits, no frills, no fart cans, just upgraded brakes, and Z rated tires) I toss it around race tracks regularly for adrenaline therapy (HPDE's). It's a very entertaining car. And the 370Z is even more so. I say do it and enjoy. You won't regret it.

thanks for your input bubba...and yes im definitely getting a 370 but im just trying to figure the right one...come to think of it im not even sure ive seen a 370 in any of the models in person at all...I have seen the 350 which I used to be in love with until the 370 came out and I started researching them as well...

I just know im gonna get tons of grief in the town I live in...like I said its super small and all about American muscle lol and theres a little bit of ignorance around here especially when it comes to spoilers like the nismo has lol...if it were any of the other models no one would even notice im sure but somehow im thinking the nismo gets a bit more attention
:wavey:

thanks again for your input though...and im sure I will just go for it and like u said...I wont regret it :dblthumb:

I just had one in the shop today. I wanted to say the gentleman was probably in his late 40's, early 50's. The majority of 370z owners that come through the shop seem to be in their 30's.

Simple answer: Who cares? Drive what you like, and if anyone has an issue with it, tell them to suck it. :)

I don't even OWN an "age-appropriate" car.

I live in the same type of scenario. Last weekend I went to the American Legion with my dad, and my G35 was the ***ONLY*** foreign car in the parking lot.. I don't think I could care any less what anyone who thinks solid rear axles and drum brakes are a great idea...

Personally I'm not a big fan of the NISMO cars, but that's just my opinion.. I don't like the flashy body kits and wing and whatnot..

I came pretty close to getting a 370Z before I got my BMW (stealership wouldn't make me a deal). It's a fantastic car, I really liked the rev-matching (even though it's definitely like cheating)... There wasn't much I didn't like about the car...

Thanks elwesso...I do like the aggressiveness of the NISMO but like I said it seems like it might not be for me...I guess i feel like what's the point of me getting a track car so to speak if it's never gonna see that from me...

I think if anything I would like the sport and touring combined...I like the 19's...I like the leather and Bose system...i like the manual transmission...I like a bit of a wing and not necessarily the big NISMO wing...but yeah i dont know I'm in no hurry seeing as I live in Minnesota and wouldn't really want one for the winter lol...in the mean time I'll keep weighing my options :~}

There is no age limit to doing what you want, unless you are this guy. :squint:

Echoing much of what has been said, I would also say that at your age, you have the driving experience to understand the limits of your car and yourself.

You have an understanding that your reaction times, etc., are slower now, so you will not think that you are invincible and do stupid things that could end up killing you. Like many new and young drivers of fast, sporty cars!

I'd say, Go For It! :yesnod

I'm three years older than you. My daily and my fun car are both manual, turbo, and pushing 300hp.

The daily. She's had a couple of tasteful mods since this picture was taken.

Fun car is in my signature.

Buy it and blow the doors off of it everyday. ;)

Slower reaction times at 38?

When does that really start? I'm 42... guess I need to go buy some Geritol... :lolling:

Early to mid twenties is when your brain function and reaction times are best for most of us.

I think you're right about reaction times. But in terms of car control, (outside of drag racing) one could argue it's a skill that improves with practice, and age does not play a significant role in deterioration of that skill until much later in life.

It's a tradeoff for the (hopefully) better judgement.

Sometimes, as is the case with me, that good judgement thing passes right by without stopping though! :chuckle:

If you are buying new, you are actually on the young side. Average Porsche buyers are around 50, whereas Corvette and Camaro buyers are around 60.

A large portion of people who buy new sports cars are empty nesters. It takes disposable income, a place to park it, and the ability to either have it as a second car or the lack of need to haul around a family.

While sports cars are sold on being youthful, the bulk of actual new sports car buyers tend to be a little older than the overall average new car buyer.

Well...

I'll put it this way:

I would drive a sparkly pink Miata with the top down every day and smile my a** off all the while. I'd be far too busy enjoying the drive to worry about anybody else's thoughts.

Our hobby isn't for everyone else on the road. It's for us. Anyone wasting the effort to be bothered by it isn't worth considering anyway. Enjoy it and forget about what anyone else thinks!

In September for my 66th birthday I bought myself a 1992 300zx, 2+2 na auto (knees have both been operated on) in Ultra Red. Been spending my hard earned retirement money on it and having a blast.

My goal is a brand new CTS-V wagon. Also, a 1950 Merc, slammed on bags: black on black with chrome trim you can see your reflection in. The grand-kids are going to LOVE me. ;)
