Is aftermarket TPMS worth getting

I recently purchased a 2001 QX4 and would like to add a TPMS. Several people have said to just check the tires monthly, but especially with my wife's car having 3 nails in the tires in the past month (due to all the rain per tire store) I really would like to know other's opinions on if an aftermarket TPMS is worth getting, and if so, any kinds better? (all part of my "updating", like adding a back up camera, interior LED lights and changing from VHS to DVD player) Thanks.
