is a welded differential safe/good for the track and for the street?

i was thinking about having my differential welded since a brand new lsd costs too much money. but before i decide, i have some questions. i was thinking if having my differential welded, it would act like an lsd and give me more traction? i no having welded diff helps for drifting but i dont know if it helps for road racing. i also heard that if you weld it, driving becomes really dangerous on the streets specially if it rains, true or not?

this is not a good alternative to lsd. lsd will still allow a bit of slipping around corners so that one wheel wont scrub. welding your spider gears should only be done for drag and drift tracks. you will not be happy with the street performance if you do this. also it wont handle too much torque before something in your rear end goes.

i have a welded diff and i freakin love it. just did my first burnout with the welded diff about 30 minutes ago and i still have a smile on my face . this is my only car and i havent had a problem with it yet. if you ever go to 240sxforums.com, there is a guy who did a write up on how to weld your own diff. he did it for a buddy who has a rb26 s14 and he hasn't had any problems for about a year now (think it is a year???).
