IS a T72 too much for my rb20det?

Discuss the RB20, RB25 and RB26 series engines.

First of all, i have couple questions.

This is The setup I'm planning on running.

Greddy intake manifoldQ45 throttle bodySS Turbo manifold.Front mount intercooler.Deutsch 440cc injectorswalbro 255Fuel pressure regulator.Every single pipe will be 3 inch.

Converted from MAF to MAP for better tuning.

Now i need to choose a turbo. I'm looking for at least 300-350hp on stock internals. what would be the best turbo for me? Does a T72 bolt up to a t3/t4 manifold? or do i need a T4 turbo manifold?

I'm not really sure what turbo i should use. I need some advice.

300-350HP=T3/T4 for best street manners (reads faster spool) Call (800) 275-2531. He's been my turbo shop since 1989 and never let me down.http://evergreenturbo.com/It's still only a 2.0 litre

Greddy doesnt make a manifold for the RB20DET. I think a T72 would be a bit on the laggy side.

A T72 is a T4 flange. Don't use a T72 dude, WAAAAYYYY to much turbo. The car is street driven right? Call Charlie at Evergreen Turbo tomorrow and tell him that you have the same engine as his buddy Tim (he'll know who you mean) and that you are looking for a turbo for that engine, tell him your HP goals and what you'll primarily use the car for also what mods and RPM range. The guy is very very knowledgable, but doesn't suffer fools well.

T72... hmm, sounds like an ebay kit.

If it is a quality turbo, it should list all the specs. Give us the specs so we can give you an accurate answer. But seriously, this whole post stinks of ebay, dont cheap out man. Genuine garrett turbos are not cheap, and they will not break, and/or harm your motor from flying apart. Buy Garrett, greddy, hks, or another well known company. And buy from an *authorized* dealer.

I have a genuine garrett t3, built for about 375 crank hp. At 15 psi, I suspect I'm at around 280whp, and its too laggy for my preference. I'd say 15psi comes at 4000 in 3rd gear. Once boost hits.... well I'll let you find out how badas5 that is.

Get a moderately sized t3/t04e, put a small spacer on your stock manifold and be happy.

Good luck.-Max

He probably means a spacer on the turbine inlet flange to set the compressor housing out away from the valve cover to get it to fit.

Use a t3 spacer on the outlet end of the manifold. all it is is a t3 flange by itself. this brings the turbo farther away from the manifold so you can clear a t3/t04e. Otherwise the compressor housing will hit the manifold.

I think he meant a spacer for the external wastegate flange.. because the stock manifold was designed for use with an internal wastegate turbocharger.

alright i finally spoke to Charlie. He's a pretty cool dude and it will cost me around 7 and 800dollar for the turbo. Either way he say t3/t4 is the way to go.

Thanks for the help Tim.

Good call on going with the appropriate turbo.

I did a t3/t04E and had to use two spacers to clear my exhaust manifold. Its a 60 trim btw.
