I guess you could consider them rare since SR20DET's were never produced in the States. They are imported engines that are being used by us folks that were less fortunate back in the day.

Surely there are a few silvias available in the states that can be used? There are plently of them over in the uk! are the RB engines easier to get a hold of?

We have to import all DETs, P11GT. The USDM versions of the Silvia came with a KA24E/DE and the USDM versions of the Sunny and Primera came with SR20DEs.

RBs are a pain too since no US market car came with one.

aaah of course. a strange decision by nissan to send over the ka24 instead of the Ca18det/sr20det.I assume the skyline was never brought to the states then? apart from import.

Correct. Only the R33 generation is legal for importation, to top it all off.

does that mean that u cant legally import any other skyline? the import laws in the uk must be a bit more relaxed however the car is heavly tested to make sure its uk roadworthy.

US import laws are notoriously strict.

For awhile there was a company in California that could import R32-34s, but they had a series of run-ins with the law and customers and lost their license to do so. Soon after they lost the rights (which made them available for use to other companies), the government stepped in and changed the rulings on 32s and 34s.

It's been about a year since it happened. Turns out Motorex had some shady deals. He should be glad he got his car, some people didn't.

Motors are not really that hard to get a hold of...there's place called JDM Exchange they can get you whatever you need. I think they're in philly. Infact my SR motor only cost me $200 now it was a some assembly required type deal...but hey...less initial cost = many many more mods ^_^
