Hey, I'm new on here and I know this might have been answered already, but I cant find it. So please, no flaming. I took off the stock air box and just slapped a K&N cone filter and an adapter to the end of the MAF. I was told by a friend to just plug the AIV (I think that's it..the little black box on the right side of the motor) with a cork of some sort. But, on the custom CAI thread, the poster said to put a breather filter on the AIV. What is recommended? Will it make any difference since I have the AIV plugged already? Thanks for your help/advice in advance.

If the aiv metal pipe is plugged you obviously dont need an air filter. if the aiv was operating it might be necessary to filter the air. I'm not sure why though since it is going into the exhaust.

The metal pipe isnt plugged, I left the little black box and plugged that. I guess it really doesnt matter since it isnt throwing any codes, but does it effect anything?

It just isn't allowing the air injection to work. There are no fault codes for the air injection system, so the ECU will never know it isn't working.

If you don't care about your emissions, then it doesn't matter.

just unplug the electrical connector for the aiv solenoid. you dont need a filter if it is not operating. should be no problem other than emission as previous poster alluded to

ok, so just emissions? does it effect fuel mileage at all? my friend told me that if i leave it unplugged it will drain my fuel mileage.

No, it wont affect your mileage. it probably does not affect your emission because you live in california and the cali computer listens to o2 sensor during idle. it might help though under certain conditons. you are required to have it in california. aiv connects to exhaust downstream of senors

oh. alright, thank you for the input. this is a little off topic, but if anyone could shed some light it would be much appreciated. my computer throws a code if i drive in cold weather without warming up the car first. the light turns off after i jump on the freeway and the engine gets warmed up though. could that have anything to do with the AIV being plugged?

exhaust gas temp circuit. code 35. Im not familiar with california codes. code 35, for example is specific to california. im not sure where that temp sensor is. it wont affect fuel economy. best to see which code it is. could be aiv related.
