Hello Dear Altimates:

I just got my first car ever, 2008 2.5 SL with $125k miles on it. I spent $9500.

One front suspension is leaking, ultimately I will have to swap them ($500),

The driver's side floor vibrates a few times after driven 47 miles @80~90mph, checked it at two places, they said car is in mechanical aspect is perfect shape so I guess CVT has to be swapped out ($3000, Houston Baker Nissan)

The moonroof drain hose inside the A-pillar on driver's side is leaking, don't know how to deal with it (cost unknown)

I am also thinking about 3~4 years later lower it, since it is mid size, Japanese VIP style/stance/hellaflush would be good, driving slow is a good habit anyways.

Does this car worth it to be kept?

Or sell it when possible, it might have other problems? I am thinking about 300zx, 240sx when I can afford them.

Thanks and gig em

The majority of late model vehicles within a $10k price range and with 100K+ miles will have problems that you will need to address after you purchase the vehicle. However, some cars will be better buys than others depending on a multitude of different factors. If you think the Altima was a bad buy, you'd be crazy to purchase a 300/240z/x. :gapteeth:

Eggzackery!

The 300zx guzzles too much gas for its power output (it's a fatty) and is not all that fast without some serious modding (that thing about being a fatty). The 240z(or sx)? are both turds in terms of speed but if you again want to spend cash for turbozzzz then it really doesn't matter, otherwise, keep them for what they are, Nissan classics.

The Altima 2.5 CVT you have sounds like has issues that were not taken care of by the previous owner which means there may be more issues down the line. I have an '06 Sentra with 120k miles with fewer issues than what you describe. The CVT is also out of warranty past 125k miles so that's another issue to consider knowing how they're prone to failure. Altimas are good cars but in my opinion their reputation has been tarnished over the last several years thanks to the CVT and the QR25's initial issues, so my advice is biased.

there are too many people having too many opinions on the internet, domestic or foreign.

I found out the noise was when tires are running on the small reflectors on Texas-6 highway......that's a relief. Not the CVT, not the engine...

Some said QR25DE is solid piece, but the transmission is made out of glass(an asian simile for P.O.S.), some said QR25DE catalyst was a fail, and the engine sucks platinum catalyst pieces into combustion chamber, while other says the catalyst will be burn away if that's so.

Front struts wear out, but I don't think coilcovers are needed. This car is too heavy to be a racing car. I am looking forward to see this engine run til it dies and to replace the CVT transmission whenever it is busted.

BTW Costco auto service dept helps you reset the tire warning lights for free, while nissan charges money.
