Is 7600 Redline for Sr20ve OK?

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

On the Sr20ve some people run thier stock DE computer, which has the 7600 redline, but a reprogramed JWT computer for a VE recomends a 7200 redline. Would having JWT run the 7600 redline hurt the engine? Hurt meaning decrease in reliability, performance, durability...etc.

the ve valvetrain is good to over 8000 rpm. i have experience with a ve. the stock bottom end should not go over 8000 rpm in my opinion as the ve has no main girdle. the major issue with going over 8000 rpm is ecms. most nissan ecms dont have a large enough map to go over 8000 rpm. this is what i understand of jwts info on nissan ecms. my friends b14 with ve was road raced regularly up to the jwt redline of 8000 rpm and eventually oil analysis led him to believe his rod bearings were failing. he replaced them and everything is cool.

How much racing did the VE see before he needed to replace the Rod bearings? Did he run an oil Cooler? From what I've found JWT used to program the VE engine for a 7950 Rev limit, now they recomend a 7200, but setting it higher is available they just make a note that you opted to go against their recomendation. Some VE owners say it is fine to rev as high as 8K, but after 7200 the engine losses power. I emailed JWT to see what they have to say. Thanks for the info, I'll make a note to get my oil analyzed when running the VE.

Good Call, Do you have contact info.

I think I'm gonna have JWT set the limit at 8K, but I wont rev that high often.

Thanks for the link, and again for the info. Lot of help.

I'll let you know how the VE turns out. I'll be round your neck of the woods to get the swap done soon. (well at least in your state, not that close.)

EDIT: Props to VA, that state is key. I lived there for over six years and might go back soon. We'll see.

Been using the SR20VE for 4years now, rev it to 8K every day day(Glowing Manifold is quite a norm). So far so good..........still purrs. Using 20-60 lube....The Timing Chain makes some noise on cold starts now.

Revived!

8k daily..That's awsome! 20-60 lube?! You're talking about the engine oil right? I've never seen 20w-60 only 20w-50... HHmmmm?!

Are you using synthetic? I was planning on using Mobil 1, and/or Castrol Syntec 5w-30, ...even thinking about Royal Purple 5w-30.

I didn't even check what nissan recomends, is it that 20-60?

Used 5w 30s......not good, engine vibrations and reving it to hell and back, the lube goes too. I can get Castrol RS here........sorry its 10W-60. Just got a spare SR20VE......just in case my pistons go into orbit. I'm using the SR16VE tranny, really helps alot when I pile up on the revs.

On this^ site, the third item down. it says "Royal Purple 5W30 Case Quarts (Substitute for 10W60)"Wonder if this would work? $65 is a lot, Might be worth is though. has anyone tried this oil? Or should I just stick to the Mobil 1 syn. 0w-40?

I think I'll try that mobil 1 for the first two or three changes. Then decide if I wanna change. Unless someone changes my mind. Open for suggestions. -RoEDIT: damn today is the 9th.... swap is pretty soon. Scheduled for the **th
