is $65 a good price to get a key?

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

on my 2007 Sentra B-16, there is only one nissan key and aftermarket remote come with it.I went to the local lock smith, he will charge $65 to copy a key with chip to me. and $40 a dummy remote. Is it a good price or the dealer might charge the same? any one know it?

someone posted that put the key in more than 6 times in 10 seconds..that's for program a new remote assign to car but not the new key with the chip. is that right?

please let me know

Thanks

Call the dealer and get a price quote on the key. They can probably tell you the programming procedure as well. It's also in the FSM, which is linked-to in my signature.

For reference, I got a new key for my Mini at the dealer and it came out to $200. It has an integrated fob and some ridiculous integrated rechargeable battery... plus it's BMW running the show there, so...

I want to say $50-100 is typical for a new key, so $65+40 for a non-Nissan setup seems steep.

Funny part of the Mini key situation was that the place I bought the car from said it only had one key, which is why I was buying another from the local dealer. The day I went to pick up the new one I got a call from them saying they'd found the spare and the "emergency" key (no integrated fob, just a key). You can imagine how happy I was.

Is there a reason why you haven't made a simple phone call to the dealer to ask the price of a new key? I don't understand why you are asking us, when you should just call your local nissan dealer and ask.

Yeah, just call the dealer and have them quote you a price. Now that I think about it, I doubt a locksmith is going to be able to make a proper key since Nissan has a chip in their keys for the immobilizer system (which I'm assuming is in all Nissans now) to prevent a thief from, for instance, "borrowing" your key, making a copy, and stealing your car later.

Again, my educated guess is going to be $50-100 for a new key from the dealer.

I had bad experience to buy the key from dealer before..

I paid $250 for my BMW 330ci I paid $280 for my Porshe Boxster..

I think Sentra just a compact sedan. but I'm sure Nissan will charge me over $100 in NY. If no one had ever order the key from any dealer before, I don't think they will understand why I ask the question here.

I mentioned in my first post that I understand that keys are expensive.

Calling the dealer for a price quote doesn't mean you have to buy a key from them. It's just a question. Worst case scenario, you're right and they ask you $150+. Best case scenario, you're wrong and you've wasted your time asking us.

My nissan dealership quoted my $25 for an extra key (key w/chip, no remote)... I'd call at least!

Call Infiniti of Scottsdale on their toll free line and see what they quote you:

very surprise to hear $25 for a key from the dealer.if you really only pay $25 can walk out the door, holding the key cutted and can use it right away. Please share your experience here again..

the dealer in NY don't even answer the phone call for the TINY job like that.. hold forever.

BTW, I paid $80 to a local lock smith for a copy. He gave me the key-code to keep also.

THIS 2007 SENTRA 2.0 IS REALLY PIECE OF SHIIIIIIIIIIIT...worst Nissan I'd ever seen !!

if my first nissan just like this one, I won't become a super Nissan fan ( I had 16 nissan so far ) (I drive 40k mile a year. switch cars every 6 months to keep the resale value, I tried all the nissan and Infiniti except the mini van )

feel very sorry that nissan made a car like this.
