is 370-400 WHP possible with these?

Discuss the RB20, RB25 and RB26 series engines.

ok, i was looking around for a turbo that could give as close to 400 whp as possible, with still being streetable and maintaining good drivability.

i wanted to know what the difference is between these 2 turbos and if both can get me to my HP goal. also if one would be recommended over the other.

here is a pic of the compressor maps:the one on the left is a garret T3 50 trim with an available .48 .63 or .82 turbine housing.and the one on the right is a garret also but it is a T3/T04E 50 Trim.the T3/T4 has a .48 and a .63 turbine housing.

basically i was wondering which of these turbos are better suited to 370-400 WHP and good street use. my ultimate goal is to run a 12.9 with this car.

also, what is the difference between the turbine sizes. what does the size affect?

thanks alot for your help.

The T3/T04E 50 trim with .63 stage 3 turbine would be best probably for your goal...good spool and a low 12 easy.

The T4 compressor would definitely be better for 400whp.

I would say the T3/T4 50 trim would do just fine for your goals. You won't need 350+ WHP to go 12.9. I just went 13.3 @ 110 with a bad 60 ft time. My car will go 12.9 or quicker with a better launch. I am problay making 275-300 WHP. I have a 56 time T3/T4 with a stage IV exhaust wheel in a .63 exhaust housing. I don't get full boost till 4200. I bet you will get full boost around 3200-3500 with the 50 trim.

i was thinking after a post i saw last night, maybe a 54 trim turbo would be more efficient?I dont really know that much about the characteristics of each turbo. I do know I dont want a lot of lag. i drove my friends drag probe one time and his car didnt start making boost until like 4500+ it wa a pain in the *** to drive. I dont want that.

anyway if anyone has experience with a 54 trim please let me know what you think of it. Also does anyone have experience with both the 50 trim and the 54 trim? and which would be preferred?thanks .

54 trims suck and aren't sold much because of it, they're not effieciently designed. 50 trims are very efficient, I have a 57 because it was cheaper and easier to find, and will have a little more top end all the way to redline..

Not sure, I'm probably around 250whp right now at 13-14 psi, but I have yet to dyno..coming soon though.

emperor your on a rb20 correct?

In any case go with the t3/t4 50 trim (t4 compressor), or maybe a smaller gt series (30 or 32) from garret. Both the 50trim t4 compressor and the GTs are designed very well, and should have no problem flowing you to 400+ whp. The t3 50 trim you listed above doesnt have the capability for much more than maybe 275whp.

Also as a note it probably takes about 270-280whp in a stock weight s14 and 250-260 in a stock weight s13 to go 12.9 with a good driver and LSD.

i was going to run a RB20 but then I got a good deal on a RB25. A friend of mine has an importing biz and he got a RB25 clip real cheap. I can get the clip shipped to my door for 2000$.

i cant pass that up.

Wow... that is cheap... Go for it.. Also if you are looking for a faster spooling turbo (3000-3500) capable of 400-450whp then go with the t3/t4 50 trim. Otherwise if you can deal with full boost at around 4000 (and capable of 550-600whp) then go with a 56trim t3/t4 with a large (i.e. stage 5) turbine wheel in a .63 a/r housing... Basically alot like Imissmyturbo has (very nice turbo).

GL man.
